Kerobian's answer is enough close. In "my" version (it's not my story, but you prolly know what I mean) the prisoner takes another of the notes and eats it. The rest goes as he said.

Sorry I have been so long in getting on the ball here.
Anyhoo, here's one for ye guys.
Alan was extremely jealous of Brenda's new computer. It ran really really fast and had all the best stuff on it. Finally, jealousy turned to eny, which turned to plotting. Finally, one dark and stormy night *Dramatic Music coupled with a scream* Alan grabbed a hammed and started banging away at Brenda's computer *Dramabutton*. He banged and hammered, and when he was finally through, he was satisfied.
The next morning, Brenda found Alan working and playing on her old computer while she had a new one. How is that possible?
