But any who,
The best thing to do is to post in forums/guilds that have similar interests that you have.
Thats how I make tons of friends on here. I RP and talk in the chatterbox forum. Also, from time to time, I critique work in the Artist corner. Just the little stuff you enjoy can be an instant friend maker.

Why not go into Towns and chat with someone you get along with? Random friend invites won't work with everyone, personally, I like to talk to people first.

Most of my close friends have come from playing zOMG. If you're still looking for friends, try playing Gaia's MMO and forming crews. Then just talk with the crew members for awhile and see if you get along. I've found it's the easiest way to make good friends.
