I listen to talk radio at least four times a week (Glen Beck, Rush, and Hannity). I heard about this yesterday on the Glen Beck show. At first, I didn't believe it, because everyone on the political left, from democrats, to progressives, then to liberals, are strongly opposed to religion being in government. Also, the news media often talked about President Bush's 'crusade' and would snerk about his faith and how it had no place in government.
However, I did some research on my own to see if this was true. Apparently it is. President Obama wants to not only continue President Bush's 'Faith-base Initiatives' but want to expand on it.
Our President wants to couple churches with the Government, mostly to push immigration issues, the green movement, and encourage government regulation.
Here are just a few of the articles I've found talking about this. I tried to get a source that wasn't expressively a Conservative website, so you can read this and form your own opinion. (If posting to links to article isn't allowed here, please tell me and I'll remove the links)
The New American: Obama's Faith-based Initiatives
http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/election/764And yes, I know this article is at least a year old. But, I just now heard about this. I'd like to hear other people's opinion about this, whether you're religious or not.
My personal opinion: I think the Obama Adminstration has this all wrong. They seem not to WANT prayer in our schools, they don't want the Ten Commandments in our courthouses, nor do they want it in the army (Look up Bill Graham's son and National Day of Prayer). But, when it suits his agenda this President is all over religion like a couple of teenagers on their first date. I find it 'fascinating' that President Bush was crossing the line with his 'Faith-Based Initiatives', but other than the Glen Beck radio program and a few online articles (most a year or so old and all of them praising of this movement), I haven't heard a peep about this situation.
The government already owns our banks, most of our car companies, our health care, and now is aiming for our churches? One of the few sanctuaries we have left that is ours?
I don't know guys, maybe I'm over thinking this, but if my future children are not allowed to pray over their school lunch, if my small-town courthouse has to defend their Ten Commandments, and a preacher can't pray with and for the military because of his views on homosexuality; then I don't want the White House to 'merge' with my faith. I want to worship God on Sunday, not be preached to about how we need to give amnesty to illegal aliens, how we need to recycle more and drive green cars, or how government sticking it's nose in my home and my life and telling me what to do, is actually a good thing.
It wasn't right when President Bush had his Faith-based Initiatives, then it's not right for President Obama to continue and expand upon it.
Even if you're not a Christian or if you don't have any religion at all, at least understand this one thing. To me, the government is trying to violate the one institution that I can trust anymore. My relationship with God shouldn't be tainted by views the President and his staff holds.
But that's just my opinion, I want to hear from you guys.
