I just have a few questions, beggining with the basic sentence, "I am ." I've seen it typed two different ways:
"Watashi desu."
"Watashi wa desu."
Which one is correct, and why?
Also, I looked around the helpful links that guys posted, and I didn't see a link that shows simple, very common phrases used everyday in Japan. Can someone show a site, or jot down a couple of things? Thanks! surprised

Hehe howdy daybreak! All right, so from what I have learned, the correct way of saying "I am" is either:
Watashi no namae wa last name first name desu.
(which actually says: my name is ____)
or
Watashi wa last name first name desu.
(I am ____)
Unless you're speaking in casual form, you need wa as a subject marker. If you're speaking in casual form you eliminate wa, ga and wo. However, if you're a beginner, it is probably best to just speak more formal japanese. smile Hope that helps. Some basic phrases are:
Ohayougozaimasu (good morning)
Konnichiwa (good day)
Konbanwa (good evening)
Ogenki desu ka. (are you well?)
(noun) ga suki desu. (I like (noun)).
Sayounara (good bye -- formal)
Ja ne (bye -- casual)
Ganbatte (good luck)

usually when I introduced myself to new co-workers I just said my name straight. Watashi no namae wa Jina Boido desu. My name is Zina Boyd.
In Japan they know that we do given name then last name so they just take it as that when you meet them. They on the other hand will give you the family name first then their given name. Family honor. They are part of a group so the group that they belong to is their identity. My friend's name is Nakata Tomoko. She always introduces herself that way as do all her family members and anyone else I have met in Japan. The family is important and it is just how one introduces themselves to anyone.

I need help with this sentence in Japanese. I can't seem to get it and it's making my brain hurt!
わたし の かれし は かれ の たくさん の ともだち と います
watashi no kareshi wa kare no takusan no tomodachi to imasu
I'm trying to say: "My boyfriend is with all of his friends" but I think I'm thinking about it too hard, or simplifying it too much. Can somebody point out my mistakes and tell me where I'm going wrong. I would really appreciate it.

I think the easier way to say it (informally) would be to say
kareshi to zenbu no tomodachi wa isshoni desu.
basically I have tried to say: My boyfriend and all his friends are together.
There are better grammar Gaians in the guild but I wanted to atleast give ya a start (and hopefully grab some understanding myself, too).

If you really feel you need to say ALL, I'd go for: Kareshi wa tomodachi zennin to isshou ni imasu. With emphasis on zennin. (My boyfriend is with ALL his friends.)
