It basically means that if enough of a song you write is similar enough to a song that someone else has written, you can get sued for it.

I've got a bit more of an explanation for it, just hope it helps.

A copyright is something that says that whatever it is one belongs to a person or company. Like Pariah said, if something of yours is similar to something copyrighted it is considered stealing. You can get sued for it. Hope it helps

A copyright is protection of intellectual property. So if a composer copyrights his/her work, it means that others can't reproduce it or make a profit of it without permission.

Speaking of copying.......
Sometimes on the bottom of choral music and occasionally on band music it says "Do not copy and distribute." or "copying is illegal."
We copy almost all of our music. And we just sit back and laugh.
