I have heard that there is a Hadith that says that it is Haram to eat with the left hand. I think the reason given is that Shaytaan eats/drinks with his left hand, but I've also heard the reason is that people used to take care of personal hygiene and such with the left hand, so it was unclean.
I was never made to eat with only my right hand by my family, but I find I do anyway.
Though, one day a sister told me "do you know it's Haram to eat with the left hand" when I had my fork in the left hand. Does that even count?
Do you think it's Haram to eat with the left hand? Do you think it counts for flatware too, or only hands?
Also, I find that the left hand has been stigmitized in one way or another in many cultures. For example, the English "sinister" comes from the latin word referring to left-handed people. Why do you think that is? Is it because it is rarer to be left handed?

How are you supposed to cut something with just one hand? eek .
When I was little I started out as a leftie. But my parents would slap my hand and/or spank me every time I'd color or try to eat with my left hand so now I'm a rightie sweatdrop .

That's silly. Some people are just naturally born to write/eat, etc with their left hand.

I think we should point out another question. Why does god create us with left hand? If it is Haram to use? Doesn't make sense to me. Some things just need to do with both hands.
Maybe someone will point out another question, why god creates pig when we cannot eat it? Well, pig is not part of us. So we can still prevent it. Plus we need both hands to keep ourselves balance. :] A lot of things we can do with our left hand.
Plus my cousin is not right handed, he simply cannot use his right hand. Somewhat disability. His right hand are use to support his left hand.

the whole "left is evil" thing came about as a fear, and as far as i can tell, languages the world over have used either whatever word translate in English as "Right" to represent a positive thing, while words which translate in English as "Left" are usually denotative of evil or contrary.
there was the fear of the unknown as well, seeing as Right-handedness was considered common, and people were taught to use their right hand as primary, so that when someone didn't they were considered different, and therefore people became suspicious of them and thought them weird. and we all know that people fear what doesn't conform. so again, Lefties were frowned upon.
to say that Left-Handedness is evil is a Social problem, not a Spiritual problem. it develops from Culture, not religion. the religion adopted it, because religion and Culture tend to go hand in hand. but it isn't actually in the scriptures, therefore it's totally bogus to condemn Left-handedness.
disregard it. talk2hand
i use my left hand for lots of things, and i'm a Rightie. i use my Right hand for Finesse, and my Left hand for Power or for Simple Tasks.
