The Ranger's Apprentice series is written by John Flanagan and I've read all the books up to the 5th one. There pretty good though I think the characterizations get a bit repetitive and because their such short books everything goes rather fast. But my favorite books of the series so far would definitely be the first two, The Ruins of Gorlan and The Burning Bridge. Halt would definitely be my favorite character as he is so funny yet serious. So has anyone one else read this series and if you did what did you think of it?

I've seen the first two books in bookstores, and I thought that they looked like something I would enjoy, but I've never bought or read them. I didn't realise that there were already five in the series! eek Maybe I'll read the first two sometime since you say that they are the best. razz

I finally read this series and I LOVE it! heart heart heart
I worried that the books would be too childish or unoriginal, but they certainly weren't. smile Throughout the series, characters battled slavery, drug addiction, and more!
In this medieval world, a Ranger is like a spy for the king. Not EXACTLY like one, but it’s the best comparison that I can make. Initially, the orphan Will (Yes, he’s ACTUALLY an orphan; unlike the novels where the main character secretly has important parents and a prophecy foretelling his coming.) wants to be a knight, but he’s too small. Halt, a famous Ranger that hides a kind heart behind a grim facade, takes Will on as his apprentice because the boy is curious, hard-working, and can climb/hide quickly, which are all qualities that a Ranger needs to possess.
The characters were very likeable. So likeable, in fact, that I surprisingly don't have a favourite! eek Will, Gilan, and Halt are all courageous, caring, and witty men, and Princess Cassandra takes on any toil for the sake of her friends or her people. whee
Books 1, 3, and 4 are the ones that I love the most out of the 6 that I read. There are currently 9 in print, and I intend to read the rest sometime soon. biggrin
If you’re a reader that enjoys works with friendship, determination, loyalty, modesty, and accepting advice as important themes, and likes a great deal of action scenes relieved by moments of comedy, then Ranger’s Apprentice is definitely for you!

The entire series is out now, all ten, with a collection of short stories and a companion series. I have to say that I really like these books and can always pick one up and enjoy it. I like the first few, but I think that the last couple are also favorites as well.
