Ashy wants to write a steampunk war/romance novel one day. She was considering doing it for NaNoWriMo this year, but first semester of college is a bad time to try that, she discovered. And Ashy considers fanfic writing practice for novel writing. So what's she doing?
DEATH NOTE: SKY PIRATE EDITION.
Hell, if someone can put Death Note out on the high seas and make a pirate roleplay out of it (I actually saw that in the series subforum of Barton Town months ago and rofl'd so hardcore), then damned if Ashy can't attempt to steampunkify it! Epic Fanfiction: Just Add Airships. xD
The following contains a little bit of spoilerosity, and it prolly won't make a lot of sense if you don't know Death Note.
Basic premise of this thing is that instead of following canon, Mello grew up to be the leader of the most renowned sky pirate gang in the world, and he gets pressured into teaming up with Near and the SPK to form an anti-Kira sky pirate resistance that will, hopefully, find Kira and snipe the ever-loving daylights out of him and his posse. Meanwhile, Kira/Light is getting together a fleet of airships and sky pirates to take on the resistance, and has brought L back from the dead to do so (and to help him not go insane while trying to maintain balance between his personas, a skyfleet, and a utopia). Cue serious crazy amounts of angst, some awesome airships, epic battles, a smidge of sexual tension, and a helluva lot of PURE INSANITY!
So kids, look for it on ff.net sometime in the future.
Warning: There will be some yaoi involved, both stated and implied. And it's gonna be totally different than the actual story, pretty much.

I could go on and on and on with the plot bits I've picked up so far. And the bit about the Death Note Pirate roleplay I saw months ago... TOTALLY EFFIN' TRUE, MATE.
