Call Me Apple
A friend said in order to travel to countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia, my husband & I need an official marriage license that we are married in Islam. And honestly, we're not married in Islam. We had a non-religious (but legal) wedding ceremony with like 10 people :/
We plan on getting married in Islam when he immigrates to America (insha allah)
Is there truth to this? In which countries?
What about when going to Hajj, what prove do we need saying we're Muslims? ((Since non-Muslims are not permitted in Mecca))
That is a very, very good question.
In the case of marriage, to the best of my knowledge, marriage before Islam is still recognized and does not need to be reasserted. That is, the marriage of the sahabah before Islam was still upheld and considered valid.
In the case of proving that one is a Muslim, I am not sure. I know that in some countries, your religious affiliation is included in your passport. However, in America, that is not the case. Nonetheless, many American Muslims manage to preform the Hajj with little trouble, and Allâh knows best.
