That doesn't sound good at all. I remember one birthday, I got two Dollar Store wooden pirates and a Batman figurine... I was twelve.... My friend (11 years old), which his birthday was a couple weeks before me, got a stereo, some CDs, and portable CD player.
Oh well, I didn't really care. I was insulted, though. And then, of course, I've had a few birthdays and Christmas with no presents.
As for the mom trouble, I'm sorry. Dunno how that is.
