Not Rain

I wore an umbrella outside today
it didn't decide to rain
I wore an umbrella outside today
I held it to the sky
my rubber boots, galoshes too
it didn't decide to rain

I wore my paper hat today
to keep my thoughts inside
I wore my paper hat today
the wind picked up instead
My fingers warm with woolen gloves
fan away the years

I wore my heart upon my sleeve
To see what they would say
I wore my heart upon my sleeve
Thunder cracked down on me

Instead of rain the wind picked up
blew my hat away
Instead they see me cower in fear
Instead they walk away

My woolen fingers heavy and dull
Flick the light switch on
cobwebs dusty, filled with time
Greet me, see me, thunder

I feel the drops of not rain
It didn't decide today
I hear the flashes, feel the pulse
the wind, not rain, not rain

It didn't decide to fall today
instead it stayed its course
I didn't decide to stay today
Instead I met the sky, asked it why
Asked it why

I wore my heart upon my sleeve
and yet you didn't deign
to grant me one last little thing
and yet you didn't rain

About the Author

Stelle Cadenti has been writing seriously for 4 years. (“not that I was any good for the first 3 of those years. Though I really started writing when I think I was 6 or 7, I attempted my first novel about a magical cat. No need to say it only lasted a page”) Her hobbies include writing, and being generally opinionated about things. She really enjoy a good debate. Her career choice, (so far) is to work in publishing, be an editor, and then once she has enough experience in the business, get work as a literary agent. (“Though,” she writes, “I could have changed my mind by the time you get this.”) Her favorite soft drink is Italian Soda.
