I really hate to hear about poaching. It's cruel, not just because of the killing animals part, but because they do it for money, witchcraft (I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring up an argument), poisons, etc. It's sad to say I don't know if there's much left to do about poaching. It happens so much and so often, it's hard to stop even when our government is in act. There is a great website that has more information about poaching.

ugh, i hate it so much. stupid people hurting animals, and id like to help stop it. its HORRIBLE (and sorry poppy, im gonna try to do this as respectable as i can because i have respect and understaind what your saying, and i understaind what you do mean, but i cant have witchcraft slandered like that. only stupid teens who dont know better hurt animals for "witchcraft." i will admit[and i hope everyone understands that this is how i grew up] i was raised wiccan and we would never ever harm animals for the sake of magic. not to mention white magic does not call for it. just saying. and i hate them for giving good people like me a bad name. i am an animal lover, and wouldnt be able to ever hurt anything. thank you for your patience and hopefully, understainding.)sorry to ramble, back on topic, there must be a way we can atleast try to help.

Wicca is a branch witchcraft which can be a branch of Paganism. /offtopic
Some lesser known religions (including some forms of witchcraft (not all witchcraft is Pagan)) will use animal sacrifices for ritual purposes. Rarely are they actual endangered animals; most of the time, they're just protected animals.
The real crime are the big game hunters who do it for trophies, money, and fame. There's not really much you can do about it except by offering larger rewards for captures, extending jail sentences and/or fines, or becoming a park ranger yourself.
Also, remember that poaching also includes plants. smile

Believe me, I have nothing against your religion or anyone else's. I believe that everyone has the right to believe in what they want. I would never be prejudice against a person because of their religion. I was just reading this article, and I found it interesting that tribes in Africa, and such, use these furs to show their power (see quote at bottom of post). I'm not saying that they don't kill in a non-humane way (which I don't know if they do or not, being that they're in Africa and I've never seen it), but I'm not saying that they aren't endangering the species either. Sure, maybe they don't sacrifice endangered species as often to make a huge impact on the decreasing rate of these animals, but at the same time--you've got to admit--they aren't contributing to the population either. It's just one more way that the animals are dissapearing. I just hope I didn't offend anyone. That's the last thing I would want to do. You've all got to understand. We all have one thing in common--we don't like poachers. Right? whee v Part of the article I was referring to. Quote: Some animals have religious value and are used as totems and in witchcraft. For example, among the Banyoro, Baganda and Batooro of West and Central Uganda, the king traditionally sits on a leopard skin. Many tribes in Congo consider leopard skin a symbol of magic, and many witch doctors in the region use these skins to show their powers. Many animals are killed for ceremonial purposes, such as cleansing a bad omen, asking gods for rain, etc.

Semi-offtopic: Did you know there is a country in Africa that is having a real "poaching" problem? It's not what you think... persons born with albinism (where your skin/cells lack pigment, so hair is white, skin is white, etc.) are being hunted and killed. Their organs are sold on the black market as witchcraft supplies. Dozens have been killed, and it's a growing problem. People can't even leave their homes anymore for fear of being the next victim.
