I'm a person who's heard stories about the SCA her whole life and I've always desperately wanted to be a part of it, especially since I met some people who are in the SCA, and, naturally, they told me more great stories. 4laugh

I was just wondering what the best way to get involved would be, especially since half the things I've sewn are only appropriate for RenFaires (*year-and a half-ago shame*).

ps. I'm in the Kingdom of Atlantia, around Raleigh.

the thing i did when i moved across the state and ended up in a different kingdom!
1 - i got onto the kingdom website
2 - found the website of the group thats in the new city
3 - found out when and where their weekly meeting was
4 - showed up, walked up to someone and said "HI! I'm new to the area!"

and, i did most of the work for you smile

i personally am not fond of ren faires, but there are ALOT of sca people who enjoy both. and not all garb at ren faires is inappropriate at sca! if it's a basic skirt/bodice combo, you are good to go! if it's a fantasyish (merlin, elfs, knights with plastic swords/shields) outfit...yeah, um..no. but thats something i can't make a call on without seeing the garb.

Yeah, basically just dive in. No one expects a newcomer to have perfect or even complete gear. Just show up and see what takes. Heck, I didn't have any garb the first time I showed up for a meeting. And unlike you, I didn't even have stories to go on. I just saw a poster outside the cafateria and showed up.
