In our school marching band is a class, so you have to be in the class (and therefore be part of the band) to be in guard.
I think it is TOTALLY fair. Do you march with the band? Compete with the band? Are you announced under the same heading as the band (The Marching blah-blah-blah Band)? Then damn straight you are part of the band. I can't believe anyone would think this is unfair, I have to stress all the time about how guard is part of the band to the BAND sections, but never to the GUARD. Do you truely believe that you aren't a part of them?
(((( Unless I am getting this wrong and he means you have to also be able to play an instrument. Then thats a piece of crap. And the chorus thing doesn't make much sense. But arts departments all over the country are taking hits in funding and sometimes losing their programs all together, so they are probably trying to get numbers up to justify their positions. ))))
Yea, color marches with the band that not what i meant though. At our school marching band doesn't practice in school that strictly concert band practice because he doesn't want to do after school practices for all the bands. (we have concert band, pep band, jazz band and pit for plays and marching band) the only band that practices during school class time is concert band.
We have try out to but he only wanted (don't know how the new bd going to do it) band or chorus member could try out. Non of the other student body could try out. I mean I could maybe see it only being fine art students (band, chorus , drama and art) but they are the only ones that would want to do it at our school main because they think it a nerd or geek thing to do. He want everyone to have played or sing before. Which I have I use to be an band but my mom forced me to quit even though she know I love it to death. So CG the only thing I have to do for Marching Band because I had to sell my trumpet back in 7th grade to I haven't got to play trumpet in several years. (sophomore in high school)
