Underneath a user's avatar in the forums, where it shows their status, online or not, is a drop down menu. Most user's will have an option enabled so that you can see all the items they have equipped. From this list, you can link to the marketplace.

If you could give us pics or descriptions of the item we could help you better. Some users don't allow the viewing of their equip list so you may have to try to explain the item to us.
