I was announced last week that I am the 2009 Low Woodwind Section Leader. I auditioned for Drum Major but obviously failed. And my colorguard buddy said that the reason I didn't get drum major is because people don't take me seriously. The only people I have is all of the saxophones. Me + 1 baritone + 2 tenors + 3 altos. That isn't completly it. I havn't gotten a count on how many kids are coming up next year. If there are alot of altos then they go to the High woodwind sectionleader (which is unfair because she already has a shiz load of flutes and clarinets.) Anyway...back to the point.

I want my section to know their music and know their sets for the field show early and have them down tight! I'm not a demanding person. I understand people. If I ask people to do something they blow me off. When it comes to marching band I am very mature about my job on the field. I want to bring my section to do their best. And I might be put in a position where I would need to bring the whole band into focus. I need to know how to do that. Please? Give me your advice.

Hmm...thats a toughy. What i'd do is obviously, speak with the BD and tell him whats up, and he can help. Otherwise, show the section you mean buisness, i mean, explain to them you can have fun, but they need to listen or they take the consequences (dropping, demerits, etc.)
