I always pick a "base color" for all the pic - now just have this yellow pale- a base color for oils paintings, is not the same one as in RL but well helps a lot. Usually have issues with degradations of blue or red colors for skins so this color help me alot.

Them I guess skin, but actually if I get bored with just one thing - that is normal I start to color other parts, like when I have half done the face I start the hair and part o the clothes and such, working on one layer is like constructing step by step of course but If I really have the patience at accesories I will tend to create a new layer XD if there is a background taht first -NOW I try to thay first from other experiences - NOW keep learning of course P:

BUt yeah! actually while I color I sketch a LOT so ...maybe that is why I can barely finish some works T^T

Sketch --> quick overall lighting --> quick overall color scheme --> quick overall shading --> some background details --> some foreground details --> more details everywhere

It's a little different every time I do it, actually, but that sounds more or less right.

Back when I colored stuff part by part, though (really long ago), I did the skin first too. Skin for me is one of the most fun things to color. ^^

i usually do it different every time i draw and color, but i like putting on the skin color first and shade it. i looooove shading and highlighting skin <33 then i do what i feel like. when i get bored of coloring one thing, i color something else. often i don't finish the skin either before i start something else. it's all a mess, that's why i should never ever make a tutorial xD
i also love coloring the eyes (if you look at closeups of my pics the eyes are often the most detailed part [example] [extreme example]) but i never do it first or save it for last or anything.
