I've only been housesitting for a matter of hours and it's already been...interesting. The house is an old Victorina. It's nice. Since I get pretty much free run of the place, I have no complaints. Granted, it would have been nice to know I would have to look in the pantry for the dishes, lol...took me an hour to figure out how I was going to eat my ramen!
I went for a walk and almost got run over in the crosswalk by a pickup truck because the guy wasn't looking and started rolling foward. I gave an unusual yell and the guy slammed on the brakes and looked really freaked. I said nothing further and finished crossing the street. The guy took off like a bat out of hell as soon as I was on the sidewalk again. I guess the fact that my yell got some witnesses was enough to keep him from pulling the 'look where you're going' schtick because I had already been in the crosswalk while he'd been stopped.
I nearly scared the neighbor by screaming bloody murder when a giant spider came crawling out from under the cats' litter box as I was cleaning it. This bugger was so big I could still see it in the shadows of a dimly lit basement! Ew! I did terrify one of the cats, but he's OK now.
So I'll update with any other misadventure in this thread.
In the meantime, share some of your misadventures in housesitting/babysitting/whateversitting!

Yuck! Awful spiders! *Shudder* I once house sat for my sister (back when she lived in JP oddly enough) and on my last day, her cat Hank decided to hide on me. gonk I spent an hour searching for him, and then suddenly he came strutting out of a room that I had thoroughly searched about 3 times.

My mom, sister, and I were once babysitting for our neighbors. Their son was about a year and a half old, and we kept going to the kitchen to get little cereal snacks for him, because his mom said he could have as many of them as he wanted.
On one of our excursions, we came to the sudden and startling realization that a HUGE raccoon had come through the cat door and was trying to get into the food. It hissed at us, and we retreated. We remained locked in the kid's room for several hours, until his parents got home.

Raccoons, lol.
Yesterday I learned that one cannot purchase a Charlie Ticket at all T stations. It wasn't until hours later that it dawned on my that if I'd had gotten change, I could have just paid in the box by the driver. Of course I realize this after trekking from Heath St. all the way to the Prudential Center Station. At least it was good exercise.
I went to Porter Square only to find the Japenese market that I inteneded to get some goodies from had closed the previous week. That was a little bit of a let down, but I got my self some bubble tea and felt better. I had to go to Chinatown to get the goods for my soup, but no biggie. I have since learned of a small Japanese market on Newbury St. I shall go there next month and have a peek.
Old houses make weird noises, but cats in old houses make ever odder sounds. Three different times the cats had me convinced there were prowlers on the third floor. Gods only know what I intended to do with that soup pot...but the kitchent knives didn't look menacing enough. Clobber first. Ask questions second. But if it gets back up...run for the freaking knives!
Oh, and I managed to get the VCR to eat a VHS tape. At least I was able to get it out of the dual player so I could still use it, but The Borrowers will never be the same, lol. I'll have to try to replace that of course. All the VHS tapes here are like a throw back to my childhood. It is kind of eerie to see movies like The Brave Little Toaster sitting around.

Yeah...it was cute to see it again.
So I've been bringing bentos to work for my lunches. All week has been about what's in Amanda's lunch today. Seriously, I'm just eating the same stuff I usually eat, it just is coming in a different container. My lunches have gone from odd and weird to cute and appealing. And these are just plain bentos, I'm not making characters out of food or anything of that nature. My coworkers are weird sometimes.
I finally started attacking the spiders with Raid since I spotted three of the monstrosities last night. Vile things, spiders. Especially shower spiders.
Oh, I discovered JP Licks....such good ice cream! Yum! Too bad most nights it is crowded.
