My first parade will be on Saturday. I'm playing quads, and I'm a freshman. Problem being, I have about 3 months of marching experience (if counting winter drumline.) Any help on trying to keep in step and doing cadences that don't always fall on 1 and 3? And tell of past parade/drumming experiences?

with cadences, there SHOULD be a central beat to it. find that and ur good lol
oh gosh freshman year...i marched cymbals that year...fun out on the field but HELL in parades. arms were sore for hours afterwards, thanks to the constant cymbal "tapping" i had to do....no crashes, just "tapping"
not sure if theres an actual word for "tapping" lol, sad that i dont kno and im a junior....basically where you hold the cymbals to ur body where one side of one is touching the other then you "tap" the other side closed...

If you can march in a straight line and can see the drum major, you should be fine. Just try not to let your feet fall into your own internal rhythm. Force yourself to follow the drum major and play in time, and your feet will fall in time too. It just...takes practice.
Also: quads freshman year must be really hard. We had a guy do that this year...but he's absolutely ridiculously awesomely good. */adjective abuse*
