Dragonforce ftw!
Rap makes me want to claw my own eyes out. Or maybe ears, but you get the point.

Both, but nowadays Im leaning more towards metal. Like Sentama Lin, I'll only go for rap artist that actually put some thought and intelligence into their rhymes. I can't stand listening to these fake, generic, commercialized songs they play so happily on the radio. Im surprised women actually listen to these songs, because their all so damn mysoginistic and degrading. And its really wierd to hear some of these rappers say they were influenced by rappers like Tupac, when they talk about things he never even touched on. Its a shame these record companies would promote someone like that Soulja Boy (who really doesn't deserve to be famous) over a true rap artist like Mos Def. But I guess stupidity, a "gangsta" image, a fantasy life of violence, and a few dance moves will sell better than a song with meaning. razz
I wont completely give up on rap, but it needs to change for the better.

I will say this: while I can appreciate the rhythm and lyrical quality of a few rap songs, I really cannot stand the genre as a whole. I won't just say that my dislike is based on monotony, though. By all means, one could argue that ANY genre of music, metal included, can be redundant and monotonous at times. Rap is more often generic, however. By generic I mean that the beats and lyrical content sort of mix together in one big money-women-territory-possession conglomerate. I get tired of hearing the new "half-words" that are produced from rap artists being too lazy to actually legitimately rhyme two words.
Regardless, my opinion is extremely biased. I have always been, and will always be, a metal-head. Through and through. I have a grand total of three songs in my 2344-song iTunes library that could be classified as rap, and they have metal undertones (i.e.: Linkin Park's Collision Course album which features the rap artist Jay-Z).
So there's my answer: Metal wins out for me, simply because that's what I was raised on. I can't really stand rap at all, unless it has some sort of guitar element in the background or something.

Stupid question, really. The reasons for liking a particular style of music are subjective and personal.
I prefer metal by far, because out of all the music I've listened to in my life, it's the only type that inspires to get up and live my life. Mainstream rap annoys me and gives me a headache.
I'm not one of "uh, yeah, mah bitches and hoes, homie. ***** wut in da hizzouse" and all of that ******** bollocks.
Though, I can appreciate it when people don't like metal. I've got Korpiklaani's new song, Vodka, playing at the moment. Korpiklaani play with an accordion and violin as well as guitars, bass and drums. On virgin ears it does sound like noise, and the same goes for some of the other bands I listen to like Cannibal Corpse and Amon Amarth.

PantomineX I listen to loads of Technical Death Metal band (Kalmah for example, Mastodon I GUESS is Tech.). But doom metal (Death, Lamb of God) and whatever the hell Cannibal Corpse are my favorites.
When it comes to rap, selection reaches a dead stop.
I think Run-DMC is rap... Right? Oh no you di int! I wouldn't call Death or Lamb of God doom metal (not by any stretch of the imagination) but you could certainly get away with calling them Death Metal and Metalcore respectively. I guess i'm pretty a**l about this stuff, but ever since I was unfortunate enough to see Lamb of God live i've been annoyed when anyone has compared them to my favourite genre of metal (that'd be Doom). I never got into rap apart from when I heard one or two Eminem songs in my early teens, but that was rather shortlived, a month at best razz For more information on rap/metal this link gives a short overview of how some optimistic fellows have tried combining the two 'art' forms - http://metalinquisition.blogspot.com/search/label/mordred

Rap? Of course I listen to rap, especially the oldschool stuff.(But in all honesty..I'm more of a oldschool funk and hiphop guy if anything) Metal I like too, pretty much everything there, though. Well except maybe NU metal, but there are exceptiosn too. (I'm no expert though, don't ask me about any bands, well, okay..you can ask me about bands but I'd answer with only Fintroll, Cannibal Corpse and Cryptopsy)

If I had to pick, I'd go with metal.
But I listen to rap from time to time. I'd hate to get bored with listening to the same music day in and day out.
