I'm a bit offended right now by one of Gaia's banner ads on the side. It's for something called Ms. Bimbo, and it's some sort of promotion for what looks like an avatar community for "fashion". Alright, I suppose, but the name really irks me.
"Bimbo" is a rather demeaning term to use for women, and to use that name for a site that I'm assuming is marketed to teenage girls-- well--- that's just pretty low now. While things such as Bratz dolls and Barbies have been discussed in other threads-- well at least there was -some- doubt. Don't get me wrong "Brats" isn't a very flattering name either, but a Brat could be male or female. Bimbo, on the other hand... I mean I was raised to interpret that word as a very mild version of prostitute, whore, or slut.
Somewhere, in the afterlife, Alice Paul is scowling.

yes, i understand you. i don´t understand what they want to tell the young girls. i´m really scared about how the toy industry want to teash our kids how important fashion is. i mean look at all those dolls and internet games , the main thing you can do as a girl is dress up a doll or creat your own fashion.... i´m not against fashion, and if i have a daughter one day i would also buy her a Barbie if she wants it, but i woule also try to keep her away from this brain washing things that tell her that fashion is the most improtant thing in life and that she has to keep buying new clothes to keep up with life....

I also understand, and agree to some extent. Like most things, I think it should be in moderation. I loved playing with Barbie(s)! But I also played outside, climbed trees, went to the beach, rode my bike, played computer games, read books, played with friends....moderation. Like chocolate. Chocolate doesn't make you fat/harm you; but TOO much chocolate, too often can.

This problem was address too many times, it's actually popular topic in the media for a while last year. stare I love barbies as well, I don't like how an internet doll base like barbie is named bimbo; before the media circus happened I stumble on this site on accident and thought it must be a porn "Hentai" anime for men because of the name. Until the news came along that it was targetting teenager...so I have an account check it out I actually like it even if the name is outrageous. But I wouldn't recommend it to my girl cousins who have low self esteem, etc, and are younger than 18,that is easily pressured or manipulated ..... MMmm that site has bad customer service, and the male announcer koopa mmmmmm don't like him for what he said earlier this year about "too many complaining bimbos...."...but that's another topic that made me not visit the site like I used to.

I joined the site a long time ago to see what it's about. It's borderline stupid/offensive. Basically, you're vying to be the "top bimbo". You can challenge other players, increase money and IQ through games and such, and you have to level up by doing stuff like changing hair color or body size. It's really for younger women but everyone from 13 to well over 60 happen to be on the site.
To be honest, I'm sorta indifferent to it. It sorta reminds me of the games from the early 2ks where you would run around clicking stuff to move up or down a grid. And every day, certain things would happen by chance.
The site is full of fashion and makeup crazed girls. So I assume the marketing target has been achieved. However, despite how...well....negative it may all seem, I have seen decent conversation outside of the usual blabber of gum, heels, and Twilight.
But then again, I kinda like gum. whee

Yes, I know what you mean. After seeing it so many times, I ended up clicking on the banner. I was interested in seeing what exactly this thing was about, and how it worked.
What you need to do is change your looks daily, get a boyfriend who gives you money, get a job, an apartment, and keep your weight in check or you get depressed.
To me the website is kind of ridiculous, but I can understand that some people may get a kick out of it.
I only tried to over feed my avi before I logged out of the site forever. I wanted it to look chubby:3
