Ok-I've noticed 2 things.

1) the link above doesn't work for IE folks-You'll have to go in from the homepage, and go stones->strange quarks->origin of man(top row, third along from left).

2)If you use firefox, you will find that, rather than getting a nice caption "tool-tip" when hovering over the image as in IE, you get
[removed]window.status='
';void(0)instead in the status bar on mouse hover. This is due to the differing ways that IE and firefox handle the window.status property, and also the fact that firefox disables processing of window.status by default. So either strip the caption out of the above code, or, if that doesn't appeal aesthetically as a solution to you, you can check "Tools → Options → Content → Enable JavaScript / Advanced → Allow scripts to change status bar text". This won't give you the nice tool-tip behaviour of IE, but will display the caption in the status bar unadulterated when you click the picture. On hover it still looks like a dogs dinner.

None of this helps you anymore than the above already has...the caption is "oingg si dimn ym...", which easily rearranges to give "my mind is going...";google this and the first hit returns 2001:a Space Odyssey.

But it may help for future puzzles.

well, since i use firefox this explains quite a bit... all i ever got was a pretty colored light picture... red to pink to yellow to orange... I'd get the hovering hand icon but nothing else... hovering or otherwise... no wonder i couldn't solve it... it was missing a hunk of clues.... gonk

Don't come that...you were missing *one* clue, and you've had it (2001) for a little while now. rolleyes
The caption is only there for people that haven't seen the film, or can't remember it. Next clue...the plot of the film has nothing to do with what the riddle is asking.

BTW Lyssan
1)how is moonshine going?
2)you are trying things in the text box, aren't you? Submitting "2001" returns "Close...That is the movie title, but keep going."

well that much i know... but as that was all i got i found myself entering all sorts of things i remembered from the movie... problem is i'm certain my memory is a bit faulty on this... it has been years since i've seen it... sweatdrop and as i live in the boonies... i need to find someone with a copy to borrow if i wish to watch it again.... sad the local movie rental place doesn't have it... maybe i should try the library.... they don't have it either... but they might be able to get it from another system... exclaim

Next clue...the plot of the film has nothing to do with what the riddle is asking.

I don't want you to go to too much trouble-if it's not the plot, the characters, what is left to consider of the film?

I'm going to lock this.

The riddle is asking for the DOB of the director of the film pictured. Now that you know what the question is, it remains to identity the film in each casse, as the directors' DOBs can be gotten easily from imdb once you have the film title.
Each image has a scrambled quote from the film; this and google will help if you have no idea what the film is (the last of the 10 in particular is unlikely to have been watched by many).

One last note-it appears that the year asked for in part 2 is wrong; just add one to the year that you find on the net.

Have fun solving it, and if you find yourself developing a taste for these, [shameless plug]follow the bottom link in my sig for more.[/shameless plug]
