I have been in a few final bidding wars in the marketplace. It says that there is one minute left. That one minute seems to extend to many minutes. Why is this? confused

If you are just sitting at the auction page anxiously waiting for time to expire then it won't, or at least you wont see it until you refresh the page. A page won't update until it has been refreshed.

Actually, Gaia changed the way auctions worked a few months back to prevent people from jumping a bid up at the last second.

Every time a bid is placed, the auction time is extended by 5 minutes I belive.

That's bizarre...that means an auction could go on indefinitely.
I see the problem they were trying to solve, but still.

Yes. And added to that, you can only cancel an auction you create before the first 5 minutes xp
