WARNING: I may talk about stuff in the 3rd book, (As well as the first and second) and if you haven't read it(them) yet, and don't like spoilers, you may not want to read all of this. I'm just letting you know, just in case. ^-^ (It's rude to spoil things for people that don't want them spoiled, you know?)
Hey, I was wondering if any of you have read the Eragon series...which is properly called the Inheritance Cycle. And if you have, do you like them, or what? Tell me what you like, ie; Fav. Character, Fav. part of book, Fav. book in series, and so on and so forth. You can also say what you don't like. I kinda figured that since it has a lot to do with 'elves', that maybe some of you have read them.
Personally, I love the series. The idea of 'Magic' and 'dragons' always lures in my attention. Though, I have to say, when I first picked up Eragon a few years ago, and started reading it, I was a little skeptical. The beginning seemed a tad boring, and there were so many random details that I wasn't so sure about. But, I pushed on, and read it anyway, and came to like it.
In the first book, my favorite character was Brom. I liked all his wise thinking, and ever since he was first mentioned, I had a feeling that he was going to be important. I actually cried when he died. crying And, for some reason, when the third book came out, and it told about Brom's true relation to Eragon...I wasn't all that surprised. Considering that Brom knew so much about Eragon's mom.
And, even as the book's continued, Brom remains one of my favorite characters. I also like Saphira, Murtagh, Oromis + Glaedr, Elva and Orik. (As well as a tone of other characters.)
I can't really say which of the three books I like more. I'm not so good with choosing like that. All three were good. But, what I realised, is that both Eragon and Eldest span over a few months of time. Brisingr covered only a few weeks time. Kinda odd. >.< I can't wait until the fourth book comes out.
One part that I really liked in the 3rd book was right after Eragon escaped from Hellgrind. It's a really simple part, but still...It makes me laugh so much. The part I'm talking about is when Eragon is really wounded, and he had fallen the rest of the way off hellgrind. He had just about given up hope on life-he thought it was useless to go on. But then, something amazing happened. A Bumble-Bee flew onto a flower right in front of him. He marveled at it's beauty, and all the life it had. It gave him the strength to go on, and to do his best with surviving.
The reason this is so funny: A Bumble-Bee preety much literaly saved his life. But that's not all. My first name (in rl) translates into Bumble-Bee. My friend keeps jokeing around saying, "OMG! You saved Eragons life."
Lets see...One of my favorite concept from this series is the elves. How they are described, their powers, everything. They are Beautiful, and amazingly strong. Even the weakest, untrained elf can overpower a strong male human. They treat their men and women more equally then humans, and they live much, much longer then humans do. They were the ones that made the pact with the dragons. ^-^ Out of all the different types of elves, they are my favorite.
O_o Oops, I kind of rambled on, huh? Anyway, I'd like your opinions and what not. And, I recommend this series to anyone on this bookshelf who hasn't already read it.

Paolini writes descriptive battle scenes astonishingly well. eek razz That's probably what stands out to me the most about the series.
Brom is my favourite character also, which is why the first book is the one that I like best. He's alive in that one. I cried when he died. cry
Saphira is my second-favourite character, and Eragon is my third. After that...it's difficult to say. I like Roran, Murtagh, Orik, and Solombum a lot. whee
One person that I DON'T like is Arya. She's so cold and unappreciative of Eragon's attentions. I know she was slightly more approachable in book 3, but I still dislike her. Because Eragon's feelings for her continue through the end of the third book, I think it's safe to say she's who he'll wind up with, and that greatly irritates me. rolleyes
I hope that the final Dragon Rider is a girl because it would be unfair and boring if they were all men. 3nodding As long as it isn't Arya because - as Eragon's love interest - she already has a large enough role. It would be cool if it was Elva!
I don't dislike Oromis, but because he "replaced" Brom as Eragon's mentor I could never manage to like him either, and it didn't bother me when he died.
I was shocked when we thought Morzan was Eragon's father, surprised and then when it turned out to be Brom I was MORE shocked for a second, but then it made sense. I cried during the memory scene that followed the revelation, too. heart

I love all three books too. My favorite characters are Brom, Murtagh, Saphira, Orik, and Eragon. Eragon does some very stupid things sometimes though. My least favorite book was the second. I just didn't think that it was as interesting. My favorite is the first, but only just. I loved how Saphira made Brom the diamond tomb. And how in the third book, how someone mentioned how people might try to steal from Brom's tomb, and Eragon said they'd be too busy chasing golden lilies, and they didn't understand. I was laughing.

I love the Inheritance Cycle! Granted, the first book was a bit halting and didn't flow as well as other, more mature authors, but give the guy credit - it was his first book ever. And Paolini's writing style has continued to grow and develop over the course of the work to something truly spectacular, so I'm glad I stuck with it. I fully expect he'll continue to improve until he reaches something like godhood in fantasy lit circles.
My favorite character ever in the entire series is Angela. She is good times and quite frankly promises to be at least as interesting as Eragon. I keep hoping Paolini will write a series about her adventures next.

I haven't read the third book yet (didn't read anyone's post about it). But I love the first tw books. It seems kinda clique (sp?) but Saphira is my FAVORTIE character. She is smart and funny, especially in the first book and she truely cares for Eragon. Well, that is kinda obvious, but still. She is my favorite.

I love the Eragon series! They're one of my favorite books! So.. my favorite character would have to be Arya, Angela, or Solembun. I know a lot of people hate Arya because of various reasons, but she's one of my favorite characters; mostly because we know almost nothing about her. She's a mystery, and it's interesting to try to decipher things she says. Angela is just awesome. I love nearly all her lines. Solembun is also awesome, mainly because he's a werecat. Chris isn't the best writer, but he's - what; 18? He's really good for his level of inexperience and age. It really annoys me when people talk about how he's a really bad writer. I'd like to see them write something better! I really want the final dragon rider to be Arya. Also- was it ever confirmed what color the last dragon egg is? Everyone thinks it's green, but was that ever confirmed? Anyway, I doubt Chris would make a new character the next dragon rider. I also think that, since all existing dragon riders are male and human (well, mostly human in Eragon's case), it makes sense that the last dragon rider will be a female elf.

Christopher Paolini is my most favorite author EVER! He's my inspiration as a writer. My favorite character's include Angela, Eragon, Roran, Brom, Saphira, Arya, Elva, Orik, Murtagh, Katrina, Nusuada, Horst, and pretty much everybody else. There isn't a single character that I don't like, even if they're evil. Christopher is such an amazing author in my opinion, to have started writing at 14, and being homeschooled make's him even better in my eye's -being homeschooled my entire life- I can not wait for the fourth book to come out and I wait in wonder what else he will write.

Christopher Paolini is an amazing author. He is one of my favorites next to JK Rowling smile oh and of course JRR Tolkien. I've only read the 1rst and 2nd books(Eragon and Eldest) and they are commendable to those who love the fantasy genre. I've seen the movie and I felt like some parts were left out...I also felt like there could've been a better ending rather than the to be continued type of ending. Sapphira the dragon is my favorite character smile Dragons are my favorite fantasy creatures next to faeries. I like fire dragons though...they r awesome! and plus fire is my astrological sign's element... sweatdrop another reason why. I really want to read the 3rd book in the series! I'm currently waiting for the library to order it...I'm 8th on the waiting list. neutral

I used to be absolutely obsessed with the Inheritance Cycle. I still love it, but I don't always talk about it like I used to. It's pretty difficult to say which book I like best, but if I have to choose it would be Eldest. I love the action and fighting. All of the troubles that Eragon goes through in Eldest just really interest me. I especially like the agaiti blodhren (i'm not exactly sure that's how you spell that, and I don't feel like going to get the book to make sure) when all of Eragon's past injuries are healed and he becomes more elf-like. Sorry to say, but I do tend to like seeing the characters in pain. I know I'm evil. crying I'm sorry Minerva, but I don't agree with you on Arya. Her coldness and how she keeps everyone at an arms length just shows how much she's gone through. If you think about it, you'll see that she already lost some people that she loved. I think that she just can't stand to see another person she loves die. She probably just tries to keep telling herself she doesn't like him like that. Personally, I think that how she acts is kind of intriguing. If I were a man, I would probably love Arya, too.
After I've said all that, my favorite characters in order are: Sapphira, Arya, Eragon, Solembum, Angela, Katrina, Roran, Nasuada, Orik, Glaedr + Oromis (cried when they died!!!), Thorn, Murtagh, and of course Brom. I love so many of the characters that if any of them died in the next book I would probably start crying!!! I feel so sorry for Murtagh, but he tends to make me really mad. Also Minerva, there were female Dragon Riders in the past. I agree with you that it would be extremely amazing if the last one is a girl.
heart Can't wait until the last book comes out!!! heart

So I'm wondering if anyone has heard ANYTHING about the last book? I can't believe it's taking this long to write it, but the fact that it's been a few years since his last book release. I'm starting to wonder if it will ever be finished.

Nope, I haven't heard anything recently. It's been a long time since I've heard anything about the final installment for George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire too. Alas, I have to wait so long to read the conclusions to series that I love! sad Oh well, delay increases desire! wink
