I am beginning to wonder if I am the only non-straight that doesn't give half a s**t if people continue using it in that way. My worry about this possible fact coming from seeing a PSA with Wanda Sykes educating the teenage demographic about this. I mean I've been through thread behind thread about it and didn't take them too serious. I figured that the gay community just like any community had a group of people in it that were loud like nobody's business and angry about things that didn't really matter. Suddenly though it looks like I might actually be part of the quiet minority that doesn't give half a flying s**t.

So two questions for the thread visitor:

Do you care if people keep using gay to describe things that are lame, like your Baptist Priest or the last CD you bought? Why?

I also don't mind arguments to either direction.

For me I've never quite found any word to be very offensive. I found f** to be an amusement and never felt the rage rise when someone referred to me as such. I've used the word ****** around black folk so often they now have named me an "honorary ******" I didn't even realize there was a passing period to being allowed to say the word. I figure one of the few ways to get over something being offensive is to stop giving a s**t about it and letting it pass like anything else. Maybe that makes me oblivious, but you know I'd rather be oblivious than a douche(another word of amusement in offensiveness xB).

Honestly, I have not heard 'gay' used in a derogatory way since high school. And even then I did not hear it very often. At least not in real life. And people over the internet who say it just automatically become 13 years old in my mind. If you can't think of a better insult clearly you can't be much older than that.

So it's never really offended me. Neither has f** because to me it means 'cigarette'. If you want to call me a cigarette that's fine, it doesn't even make sense.

I try to avoid using it in a derrogative sense, and I try and keep those close to me from doing it too. I can understand completely why you don't give a s**t.

My friends use it every once in awhile, and I don't freak out or go on a rampage or anything, but I do tell them they shouldn't say it; especially around non-LGBT friendly people. It just supports a mindset (to any border LGBT or non-LGBT people) that homosexuality has a negative connotation. I know not using the word in a negative way and trying not to tell people to use it isn't going to make some huge difference between those people who make homosexuals out to be perverts and degenerates, but I like to think of it as a little easy way to try and make the world a bit more LGBT friendly.

It sounds a little silly, I know, but I hope it can make a difference; and without hope, there is no humanity.

Well the word gay really in my head has an evolution. It started as a word for happy, then amused in a way that was a little scandalous, then homosexual, and now has become a generic word for lame. I can identify myself under the word if necessary but then I don't really mind it used for any of it's other definitions. If I hear a course of action where gay is used as happy or scandalous then I figure it meant that before it meant homosexual so why should I intrude? On the other side lame came after but then homosexual came after scandalous...in the end it would be hypocritical for me to denounce it. It began as a word that wasn't friendly to the homosexual, but we forced it to be our identifying title. Though I don't entirely care.

And yeah if people are trying to use it as a serious insult I find it amusing. It isn't a serious insult to refer to someone as gay, it is about as effective as the word loser. If you really want to hurt someone than you must try a bit harder.

I've been in America too long really to fall into f** meaning cigarette since it seemed to always mean queer to me...on that aspect whatever happened to the words queen or flamer. I'd like to see those come back. Flamer has to be my absolute favorite when it comes down to it.

One of my female friends calls me her "Favorite Flaming Rainbow" xD
And if you want to hear the word Queen, then you should talk to my friend Q. Over uses te word at times x.x

Yeah, it's not a major insult. It's like Boogerface or something of the sort. I understand that--- But you forget that half of the population in Oklahoma hasn't graduated from third grade wink xD

In could care less really.
I find people that get offended and adamant over it to be very immature, despite them calling the other people immature.

I use f** rather often (more often tagged on to other words, me being a channer) and I don't care if you're offended.

If you get offended by words, you need to lighten up.

If you ask me.
