Have any of you ever seen a "show style" band? This is more for highstepin show style bands. Although it doesnt depict them in quite the right light it still kind of shows what those bands are like. Quite a different marching style and their drum lines are a bit different as well (although some of the drum coordinators come from DCI). They play more for the entertainment style (rap & hiphop music) and you never see any of them going to bowl games.
I personally loved the movie for it's entertainment factor and laughed at Nick Cannon's role. I was just happy to see a movie that had marching bands in the theaters. I'm more used to that style of marching as well since i came from bands that had a traditional chair step.

Even though that movie was based off of the "show style" type of band, it still isn't an excuse. At my school if you act like you are so good and act insanely cocky, the rest of the drumline will show you up. The best at our school are the ones that have been showed up before. They know not to act cocky and know that if they do act that way someone else will show them up. Nick Cannon acted like he could play and, know what? I loved when he got showed up. If I met him in person, I'd love to see if he could even hold the sticks correctly in the traditional grip. If he could, I'd play a DCI solo. If he couldn't I'd spit on him and walk away. I've been showed up hundreds of times for being cocky and I've showed up others that were cocky.
And the guard was disgusting. God, I'm not even in guard but it's just counting and knowing how to hold the flag or saber. Is it that hard for just a few people to be together for just a few seconds? And, I've been to several different circuits watching different types of shows. Dance teams aren't that slutty.
And the rest of the band, Seriously, The woodwinds you couldn't hear at all and weren't holding their instruments up. High brass didn't know how to move their fingers. Low brass? Sousaphones? Really. Sousaphones are so cheap and tacky. WHERE ARE THE CONTRA BASSES!?
When I say I play snare in drumline I do not want to hear, "I bet you couldn't beat Nick Cannon!" I want to hear, "You mean like Ralph Hardimon, Tom Float, or Scott Johnson?" I hate the uneducated masses.

Drumline doesn't make any sense, first, I don't even get how he got that far, not being able to read sheet music.

Kokihi ...fail.(i was referring to you.) the actors don't play the instrument perfectly, thats ok. Find me an actor who can play snare flawlessly(hint: theres a really good chance you wont. like 1000 to 1). Your being overly critical. If it was DCI that we were watching, i would agree with you, because thats what they do! Music isn't what these people do, they act. you don't have to be a tight a** about it. its a good, entertaining movie. I heart the movie drumline. hell, so does everyone else on my line. we play a cadence from the movie for gods sake. i like it 'case the rest of the band got to see that the dline is the hrdest working line on the feild...

lilyeve if you are a drummer, and you have ever seen drumline, you would agree with me. first, their technique is horrid. second, when have you seen drumlines face off in the middle of a field. third and last...when the kid plays the drum, and the captian (sorry i cant remember their names) picks up the music, he says that that is what the kid just played. only one problem. the kid was playing snare, and there are SHARPS AND FLATS. Please, if someone has discovered a way to play sharps and flats on a snare, please tell me cause i would love to know. I whole-heartedly agree. Although the music is good, the movie is quite a disgrace. Nick Cannon is a tool. But actually, our drumline has had a drum battle in the middle of a field after the game. (We won). Good eye on that music thing. I never caught that.
