It's almost my birthday; I'll be 18. Most people would be thrilled but I'm not sure how I feel for one very good reason.

My wonderful SCA friends and others (males) have found it horrible that I wasn't 18. They are VERY flirty and have made it clear that they would like to follow romantic intrests with me. Not that I would, but still.

That's not the issue.

My lovely Aunt has declaired that I am "going on the auction block" when our shire holds our event. (A week after my birthday.) I didn't think she was serious so I ignored it. BUT THEN she tells our households #2 about her silly plans. Needless to say he loved the silly plans and is taking full responsability of the "auction". (He says not to worry; he's going to kidnap me back before they realize what happened.)

Can't I stay a kid forever?

Though, I do wonder what people would barder for me. =]

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Being auctioned? Not in the SCA.
Being told that someone could barely wait until I was legal? ... Well, not as often since I came of age. And then, still less in the SCA. I was once told that watching me grow up was "like watching a rose come into bloom", though.

Oh, I've been auctioned off ... three times?

It's good fun!

What I love about it is, when you have multiple people - and someone feels they are 'worth more' than the previous person, but haven't gotten as high a bid.

Out of the three years I've gone to our Fields of Gold event (in June), I've been auctioned off twice, and auctioned off my services once (this year).

The first year, I was auctioned off 'an hour of my time'. And I think I got about $27?
Lord Wlfryd -who was auctioned off right after me- decided that he should at LEAST get as much as me, and was all in a huff (joking around of course). So Lady Betha -who was holding the auction- walks up to him, and pulls his shirt as open as it'll go, and says 'There!', as I yell from the kitchen, already have being put to work, 'MINE ARE BETTER!' (wearing my bodice as always).

The second year two hours of my time were auctioned off, and hour each to two different people.

And this year I auctioned off my jewellery making skills, and earned just short of $100 between the two, for the Great Hall.

Honestly - just have fun with it. If you are unsure, go and talk to whoever's 'hosting' the auction, and talk to him/her about the rules.
Betha's rules were that the person being auctioned off, could refuse any request that they felt uncomfortable with, and if there were any issues, they were to be brought to Lady Betha.

While you're standing up there - just smile brightly (I suggest wearing a bodice, works wonders! wink ), and joke around.
The first time I was auctioned, I was a little nervous (it was also only my third event). But the second time round, I did little things like lifting my full, floor-length skirt to just BARELY show my ankle.
As the bids got higher, I'd show just the TINIEST bit more (never going any farther than just above my knee).
I'd also just had henna done on my leg, so there were celtic knots up my leg. rofl

But yeah - talk to whoever is hosting the auction, make sure he announces the rules before bidding starts, and have fun with it! 3nodding I love being auctioned off! xd

It's not an offical auction, dear one. It's more of a mock-auction.

I think I phrased that in a confusing manner, forgive me.
I meant to say I had not been auctioned in the SCA, but I have been auctioned out of it. It was a fund raiser at my high school, every year they auction off the seniors to the underclassmen. I think I went for about fifty.
