Hey ya'll!! I just recently quit my guard and I thought I'd post it here. I'm a senior at my high school and had planned on going through senior year, but heck I got tired. I wanna now how many others have considered quitting or have done so b/c let me tell you I was not the only one at my school, we had at least 10 people quit guard and band.

There was a lot going on, some that I couldn't control some that I could. One thing is this next year I am taking 5 Advanced Placement college level courses and they all require a lot of studying. Two, two of my best friends quit band leaving me with really only two good friends in guard and I knew it wouldn't be the same without them. Three the management of the band/guard was horrible, I couldn't respect my captain or my director which was making me have a horrible attitude at guard and making me show a side of me I don't like. Four I have been sick all summer and much weaker than I have been in the past and I didn't know if I could do it anymore.
Don't get me wrong there's a part of me that will always love guard and band, I plan on going to a few football games and winter guard competitions this year. But there was really nothing left for me to gain from the groups. I'd accomplished everything I'd wanted to in guard. I'd been to Nationals, I'd been in a class higher than AAA, I'd been in a guard that was known and people went to watch, I even have a gold medal from State this past year. So I had to outweigh my logic against heart and logic won.

i almost quit last year. our instructor quit after the fourth of july parade, and we didn't have one til a week in to school. they got a really good guy who PWNS but the work he wrote sucked and was too repetitive. then we got a tech to sit in class with us, but it turned out being a group study thing. fish year i lettered in guard, but last year i barred in band. i really wanted to quit, and we didn't even have a winterguard. but now our tech last year is our instructor, full time :3 so waiting payed off. but the band seriously almost lost all of it's upperclassmen guard members. and a team of fish would really suck. XD

QUIT??? The only way they'd make me quit was by locking me in jail. Because someone suggested I quit.

I sadly had to quit guard. I moved two weeks before school started and knew we were moving but didn't know to where, so for once I shall sit on the side lines and watch. Beware though I shall return...

There has been a time every marching season so far that I have thought about quitting guard. It's always a time when tempers are high and things aren't going right and I'm sad that I have to miss out on having a life because there is always practice or a competition. I was actually at that point for the last week or so. But yesterday at practice we were all sitting around laughing and our coaches were making vague references to our winter show which we will be taking to Nationals this year and I realized that I would miss this way too much if I quit and it's worth the stupid petty stuff you have to go through first heart

in high school i also planned to stay in band through senior year. but we have all these required classes at my school and since i'm on the honors track, i simply didn't have space in my schedule to do band this year. when i figured out that i couldn't do band at this year i was really devestated. i love band! i don't love it because of the people, i love it because i love music and playiny my heart out. don't get my wrong, the people are great, but i was more sad because of the thought that i would never be able to play marimba or xylo or vibes or any other mallet instruments which i love so much. so this year i'm slightly depressed. but, i've been tweaking my schedule for the next two years and it looks like i will be able to take band! i'm so happy! so basically, yes i still love band, even though i had to leave it for a year.

Its always normal to have that handful of members that quit, but their motives are exactly up to us to question, I mean its your life right? :]
I've been in both band and guard since the 8th grade, and I've had my doubts about both. I've come close to quitting band, but decided to stick with it for a while longer.
Sure it does effect the rest of the team, after a member quits, but it effects the team in worse ways when they still have someone sticking around that doesn't want to be there and drags down the others. Guard isn't exactly cheap either, so why pay to do something that makes you unhappy?

I was going to quit the Drumline this year because the person who is capitan fails at life. she is a total B*#%h and doesn't know how to play any of the drums on the line accept bass (thats what she plays) she tried to have us march to a cadence thats in 3... thats how bad she is. she has absolutly no respect for anyone on the line and expects us to hang on every word of hers. she doesn't let everyone know when things are happening, then gets angry at us for not showing up. but i decided that I wasn't going to quit because my sister is the Drum major and if the capitan ever did anything really stupid, i could let her know and she would take care of it. and she did the few times that that did happen. we finished our last game, so all we have left in the marching season is the parades that we will be in (only 2 left) then the band is handed over to the director (who is the capitan's mother, but is way better about stuff. she actually knows the instroments, and doesn't pretend to know the ones she doesnt.) Its my senior year as well, which is exactly why i didn't quit. its my last year, and the under classmen in the band look up to the seniors, what kind of example does it set if i quit because of a feud with one person? section leader or no?

i had to quit my previous band due to the female drummer attitude problem. she sms me and told me that it was everyone's decision , and ask me to step out of the band. i called all the other members and ask them . their reply was that they didn't know anything bout it, but they heard from the drummer that I quit the band already, so the drummer wants to replace me as vocalist, and so the drummer will find another drummer for the band. all of us was wtf 0_o . so, i quitted the band. but i was so sad , cuz i am not able to go for the audition already. the other guys stayed in the band bcuz they are going to prepare for an audition. that female drummer who replace me as vocalist couldn't sing well, during the audition, she went out of tune(One of the judge is my friend and told me bout it, bassist keep making lots of mistakes, one of the guitarist played the solo a bit wrong. gosh). in the end, the band couldn't make it for the audition and not able to perform for a big performance gig in Dec. friends who knew bout us was laughing bout tis piece of news.
