There have been so many times I've picked up a promising manga and started reading and a few chapters in, I'll think "This sounds a lot like ----" So yeah, similar plot lines are out there, so the question is, which manga/anime are almost identical?
I noticed that Fuushugi Yuugi, Red River, and Inuyasha are all really similar - I was reading them all around the same time. For future reference, don't do that. XD

Hmmm... I've only read the first volume of Pretear, but I think this manga is a lot like Sailor Moon and Fushigi Yuugi. o.ox More like FY, though. I love FY. *-*x

Chobits and Elfen Lied have similar concepts. Even though they're essentially different, they have a lot of similiarities. I think it's tough to create something completely original.

I seem to keep coming across series like Yume Kira Dream Shoppe and XXXHolic these days D:
Also, there's way too many series about high-school students saving the world, and I've come across few too many series about Wizarding Schools (someone's read too much Harry Potter, lulz)

Absolute Boyfriend is basically sounds similar to Chobits, except the robot is a guy and a cute girl who buys them instead of persocom with failed college student.

Hmmm... When I first started reading Buso Renkin, I couldn't help but notice the similarities to Bleach (luckily it became a little different as the story progressed).

Now that I think about it Red River is similar to Inuyasha and Fuushugi Yuugi. I never noticed it until now though.

Persona 3 (I guess RPG games could count) and Tokyo Majin seem very similar to me. They're both about highschoolers saving the city from unknown creatures and all that jazz. XD

I wouldn't really compare Fuushigi Yuugi and Inuyasha, because the only thing that I see that are almost identical are the fact that a girl(s) gets sucked into something.
Fuushigi Yuugi takes place in a real book (or at least, I'm told the book is factual, but called something else), while Inuyasha takes place in, what, the Edo period? Plus, Fuushigi Yuugi is alot better, and doesn't repeat itself (if it does, it doesn't so much) like Inuyasha.
