We have a black cat with a white spot on his chest at my mum's. He's always had a few white hairs on his body, but I have noticed that they are becoming more numerous. On the other hand, my 1 year old solid black cat has plenty of white hairs, and my black & white kitten has lots of single white hairs on her black parts.
I'm not entirely sure, but I'm guessing on your cat the white, coarse hairs are vibrissae. They're just like whiskers and are sensory hairs. Cats have them all over their bodies, they're usually just not really apparent, cause they're not as long or thick as the whiskers on their face or the backs of their legs.
Wow, Anlina, you always have such great answers. There's still so much I don't know.
So I'm assuming when that back area was shaved for the surgery those hairs must have grown in first and that's why they where more noticable to me.
Thanks. I couldn't find an answer to that question anywhere.
