it's not a good enough reason to break up with someone...appearances shouldn't be the sole reason for a relationship anyway sweatdrop

Piercing and tattoos aren't only about appearance. To some people, it's showing that a person is willing to mutilate the body, which kinda shows a person's personality, attitude about life, and how they feel about themselves.

Yeah I guess you're right. It can be a sign of toughness too. I don't find them attractive either..but I do like my boyfriend's. He has a small tattoo of the the Kanji for love and heart on the back of his right shoulder and a small tattoo of a skull with tribal flames on his left. Both are simple designs and they're only small and meaningful to him. He has his ears pierced and his eyebrow...his eyebrow is goddamn sexy xd

User Image.I will b r e a k into your thoughts, with what's written on my heart
.Practice can make perfect, but it's p a s s i o n that persuades
.Loving you can be painful...but it ALWAYS h u r t s. so. good.
.You t r i p p e d over your words, and fell right into my love

That's a personal opinion whether
tattoos and piercings are mutilation.
They aren't in my opinion.
Mutilation is done for the pain.
That's not why people typically get them done.
Tattoos and piercings are ART.
If they're done tastefully.

Some people just go ridiculous.
And some people do it for the pain.
But a lot of people do it for other reasons.
Personal reasons...significant reasons.

Just because a person has them done
does not automatically say how they feel
about themselves or life...or that they're
"willing to mutilate the body".
That statement is just damn judgmental.
In order to come to any conclusions on that
you need to know the person's reasonings
and get to know the person in general.

Have you ever thought about the people
who get tattoos for their children, or
as memorials of somebody that died?
How does that say anything about their
attitude towards themselves or life?
It says that they care enough about it/them
that they want a permanent reminder
and they want something of them close.User Image

I was saying that to some people (not necessarily me) that's what they view it as. And that it's not only about appearance. How is this judgmental? If anything it's being open minded saying that other people could and likely have those thoughts. Yes, people shouldn't be judged for their appearance, but people do and will judge on appearance.

On a side note, I don't feel tattoo's or piercings are art, and more often than not, are done tastelessly. I feel they should only be done if they have significant meaning to the individual, such as getting a tattoo that reminds them of a loved one that passed away.

I have a few piercings (both ears- lobe, 2nd hole which are being gauged, and right cartilage- and my eyebrow) and I must say that I find them to be rather addicting.

I also managed to get my first tattoo not too terribly long ago-- a trio of pink stars on each hip. Its a symbol of my love of Joco Java (the local coffee shop) and my eternal friendship with the ones who visit (aka- The Star Gang).

My reasoning on my first piercings? Emotional turmoil. As it stands now, I'm fairly happy with how I look with my piercings. Do I ever think about getting "just one more?" Yes. All the time. I like them... I like the way it feels when I get them done... but at the same time, I want to be positive that it'll be something I won't whole-heartedly regret when I'm older.

This seems like a fun thread to rebirth.

I love tattoos and piercings. There are definitly different sorts of people for certain piercings. I have always wanted my eyebrow and snake bites, but they would not look good on me. I currently have my industrial, 2 other cartilidge, and 8 lobe piercings. Four are 16 guages and two are 8's. I am not getting anymore in my right ear, it will look too cluttered, but I have two more planned for my left. I have my tongue and another piercing. I love them.

I have a small tattoo right now. It is an ankh and has meaning to me. Life and love, pretty simple, but it's everything. I have a few more planned. Aheart on my foot with dogtags and a ribbon that says Semper Fidelis. That is for my fiance, he's a Marine. And if something were to ever happen between us, my best friend is a Marine also. So there's more meaning to it than just being for him. I have a snow leopard that I want to do for my daughter. I drew it when I was pregnant with her and I absolutely love it. I want wings, but the ones I drew will be really expensive so I'm holding off on that for a while. All of my tattoos I have drawn so they are mostly original. The heart I found and modified. It had I Love My Marine of the banner and a rose, I changed the banner and added dogtags instead of the rose. =^_^=

I love piercings. I currently only have the right side my lip pierced, and my ears pierced, but I just started gauging them.
I'm getting my left cartilage pierced pretty soon, and the left side of my nose pierced in May. :]
I want to get my right tragus pierced though, and maybe my tongue. I know I will eventually get my right eyebrow pierced, and once I turn 18 I'm going to get tattoos galore.
I haven't decided on any other piercings yet, but I'm sure I'm going to experiment with them.

I'm not big on piercings on myself, but if someone else likes it on themself, and it looks good, then great! I don't really have any problems, people are allowed to do what they want with their bodies.

Same as tattoos. If you want one, you shouldn't let anyone else sway you. Unless you have a really bad idea and they are just trying to help.

I have a tattoo. It's a barbed wire heart with a rose entwined in it on one side. The heart represents love and kindness and all that, but the barbed wire stands for the sharp, edgy attitude I can have at times. Basically the rose is a combo of both, sweet and spicy. I want more tattoos at some point in time(mostly when I have money..) and I know they will have just as much, if not more, meaning to them.

Sorry, a little pet peeve. You don't guage your ears, you stretch them sweatdrop A guage is the size of a wire, bar, etc.

in some culture Tattoo and piercings are costumery, in my mother's heritage piercings a baby girl's ears are a sign of keeping bad spirit away. Other cultrue use tattooing is a sign of man hood or some thing or an achivement, not sure on this one.
