Is anyone planning on adopting another cat in June? Is your local Humane Society running any special events?

I'd really like to get another cat. Our shelter is going to be running a special on cats that have been there over 6 months and there are a few that I would just love to take home.

Plus, my mother is coming up for a visit at the beginning of the month and she said she would go to meet and consider adopting our resident cranky kitty, Fran, who has been at the Humane Society for five years. I think it would be just fabulous if she could find a home at my mum's.

Awwww! that would be super sweet if your Mom would take the cranky kitty!

I would LOVE to have more kitties...recently I've been talking about fostering them, but Adam says the apartment is too small.

He's sort of right. : P

Maybe I'll just make a donation.

OMG there's a woman in town who was doing some rescue work, but can't any more, and she's got two mothers with litters that need fostering, and I so wanted to take one, but Rob said no, because the apartment is too small and I've sucked at keeping it clean. crying

Aw, that's sad! I hope they don't end up at the shelter!!

Fostering a mother cat would be really great though! I would love to have kittens around again.

Yeah. I've never had small kittens around, and it would be a nice way to have more cats without the long term commitment, and enjoy kittens without letting one of my own cats have some (not possible since they're spayed anyway.)

I adore cats, and if I had never ending resources and room I'd get another one. Unfortunately, I really have too many as it is. gonk heart

what a coincidence, i scheduled my cats' (who came from the same shelter) birthdays to be in june.

and i think grumbles was the resident cranky cat at the shelter razz .

it'll be nice to have another cat because mitts still needs a kitty friend who would play with him. i even picked out a name. unfortunately, i don't think i can adopt any more due to living conditions and expenses.

My mother is an angel.

She came to TBay for a visit and I suggested she meet Fran and see if she thought she would fit in. Fran is our long-term resident at the Humane Society - nearly 5 years, and she's a big, fat, cranky cat - very far from what most people want when they're looking for a cat to adopt.

Well, my mother came to the shelter and met Fran and also met most of the other cats and fell in love with Sunday, a very small, soft, medium-hair grey female cat, about a year and a half, who originally came in with 12 kittens.

So yesterday she filled out the adoption papers to take both Fran and Sunday, and today she's driving back home with both of them.

I'm really hoping that the drive goes smoothly and that everyone integrates into the household without too many problems.

We know Sunday is good with other cats, and Fran gets along with other cats once she has established herself at the top of the pecking order.

At my mum's Tiger is extremely territorial, but once he understands that the new cats are there to stay and not just invading his territory he becomes a big suck and will probably get along with the girls just fine.

Bart just doesn't like other cats, period, but he'll be okay.

Lilian will probably have to work things out with Fran, as both are very large and very dominant girls, but I think they should be fine too, as long as Lili doesn't think her crunchies are being threatened.

It's been 11 years since my mum last got a new cat, and I'm super thrilled she was able to give both these girls a home.

I'm very happy for Fran and Sunday and your mom. It's great that they could get a new safe caring home. Not all cats are as lucky especially after being in the shelter for that long. But congrats anyways!

A pregnant stray adopted me, do I get points for that? She's such a sweetie...
