These are a few good things to do if you want to protect your account from people who have less than good intentions. While a lot of these are simply common sense, they may help you out one day.

1. Do not have passwords that are short, easy to figure out, or things that can be found in your profile. Passwords with Capital letters & a few numbers are much safer than an all lower-case word.

2. If you get a random PM from some one you don't know that involves a link or pictures, delete it. Do not click the pictures, and do not follow the link. If you do not know the person, they have no business sending you such things anyway.

3. If you do happen to click on the link, look at the URL CAREFULLY before typing in ANY information, including username or password. The most common fake site that I've seen spells Gaia with an extra 'i' (gaiai), but there are other variations too. If the website does turn out to be a fake Gaia site, close the window & report the PM IMMEDIATELY by clicking on the "Report this PM" button. The mods will deal with it from there.

4. If you begin to become besieged with PM's from random people, switch your PM's to "friend's only" in your Account Settings. This will ensure that only people you know are contacting you & will decrease your risk of being hacked.

5. Remember that no Gaia Administrator would ever ask for your password. If anyone EVER asks you for your username, e-mail address or password, IMMEDIATELY report them!

Doing any or all of these things will help keep your account safe from hackers & phishers.

If anyone has any other ideas on how to prevent your account from being hacked, feel free to post it here.

Some people show off their beauty because they want the world to see it...

Others try to hide it...

Another tip would be to not reply to the hacker no matter what. Even if you just tell them off they can trace your IP address and then hack you.

Another tip would be to not reply to the hacker no matter what. Even if you just tell them off they can trace your IP address and then hack you.

This may be true with certain sites, but Gaia is a safe site that doesn't track your IP address.
Even still, this is good advice - Never reply to some one that you think is trying to hack your account. Simply report them, block them, & move on.
