Germany surrendered fully to the allied forces a good 2 to 3 months before the first bombing in Japan (Victory in Europe [V-E Day] was declared on May 8, the bombing in Hiroshima was on August 6).

Also, it didn't "fully pull America as THE world power", it established the USA and USSR as the world powers. Had there been no question of superiority there would have been no Cold War and subsequent arms and space races. I further question your third point as I fail to see how simply establishing superiority justifies that kind of slaughter.

Speaking of the Cold War. I would like to suggest that the use of the bombs in Japan actually worked to scare the US and Russia. I doubt that they could have truly comprehended the horror of such weapons and, had they not have been used then, would have been more likely to use them during the Cold War. Perhaps on a large scale.

@Inmate — Why the hell would a foreign power allow an apparently militant leader to remain in power? That's ridiculous. What if Germany had asked that Hitler been allowed to remain in power? Or Italy asked for Mussolini?

Furthermore, 3-4 days is apparently enough time to make a decision of surrender. They managed to do it in one after the bombing of Nagasaki.

sigh no they were beaten a good month tops but they had not surrendered. and we had been "Island Hopping" to get to japan. and they had been fighting to the death. For ISLANDS THEY DID NOT EVEN HAVE PEOPLE ON. You Ever here of the Kamikazes they were Japaneses suicide bombers. and they were using them before we were even in range of to bomb them. think of what would have happened if we tried to invade japan THEIR HOME ISLAND. And Truman did send them an "Ultimatum" and they said no. so we bombed Hiroshima and they still did not surrender. so we bombed Nagasaki. and the reason we needed to end it quick with them was to beat Russia to Germany. cause had they have arrived without The rest of the Allied powers being there then we would have been screwed cause Russia or sould i say the USSR would of had GERMAN FACTORIES. and you see how good they worked against us right so yeah. and even to say my HISTORY TEACHER AND HE IS BIG INTO WORLD STUFF AND ALL AND MOSTLY HISTORY EVEN BELIEVES IT WAS JUSTIFIED. i say it is u have ur option so there. but yeah it was.

and to the other girl. it sure would have been enough time if they saw a huge explosion, to say hmmm i think we should surrender. so yeah

eek confused rolleyes

What? Do us all a favor, print out what you just typed there, bring it to your HISTORY TEACHER THAT'S BIG INTO WORLD STUFF AND ALL AND MOSTLY HISTORY and ask them to respond to it. I'm mean, holy s**t, I can barely understand what you're trying to say, let alone respond to the stupidity of it. Wow.

Maybe your English teacher too. Is English your first language?

I am pleased to say that in this topic of mass distruction [I know that's wrong] that would you do so kindly as to not insult others intelligence.
That even though tempers may fly and heated debates insue, to keep it as friendly as possible.
AKA
Do not insult others directly.
If you want to quote or post an opinion beware others WILL debate it. So you may want to find out if it's true.

I'll rebuttle in a bit.

i would first like to conferm that yes VE day was befor they droped the first A bomb and i also think it was justifyed mostly for reasons already disscused hear manly the loss of life if we hadn't but i think the true topic should be why the world even came to the point where the US was forced to do so

The US of A was not forced to do anything they chose to drop the bombs. There were no aliens attacking from outerspace controlling them and forcing them to do anything. Choose your words carefully.
As humans we control what we do. Nothing can change what we do or erase the mistakes we make. The only thing to do is to learn from them.
When it comes to war we as humans can't learn for are mistakes.

I say.
The damage done. The lives taken. The thousands tortured. Yes I mean that. No one really knows just drasticly the victims lives were changed in that Flash of white light.
Is not worth it.
It would be better to invade Japan. There resources were wearing thin and winder was setting in. The Japanese would of had to surrender soon.

Do we really even know how many people were effected? Either through mental and/or physical and/or emotional means?
How illnesses are linked to Hiroshima and Nagasaki? If so could you really say more people would have died through an invasion?

It was a quick and deadly way to end the war, but as the first post said, people are still suffering from the effects of the radiation, and I think that America should've and still should fell quite guility. But, if the Americans had found a way to end the war that didn't involve bombing Japan, d'you think they would've used it? No. They would've taken the quick way, which resulted in Hundreds of Thousands of Deaths.

well personally I dont think the Atomic bombing was not necessary. we had more people and we had them trapped. Yes they caused alot of damage to our Navy with pearl harbor when they bombed us but they also have the quote saying that they relized they awoke a "sleeping giant" after that even with the damage to our navy I still think we had enough force to take over there territory what they did with the bombs was to save thousands of lives but they already knew for a fact that the Atomic bomb was an extreamly deadly force to mess with. no they didnt know the full force of it but they knew it caused radiation from what I understand and they knew it was not gona be pretty. as to the part of there kamikazes if we were in there own territory they would not have continued doing so because they would have hurt thereselves even more doing so so I would think they were smart enough to figure out. No one forced the USA to drop bombs on Japan they felt pressure to do so true because we are a democracy meaning our goverment is run "by the people" so they felt pressured to but overall its still there own choice. but even thou we droped pamplets to prove we could reach them they are a dictatorship that means one man runs the whole country and since they are on an island without the support of the leader they had no way to run even if the people wanted to they were all traped because one man thought he might have had the chance to win the war I believe personally we should have at least used more practiced tool like the smaller bombs that they knew what they were dealing with the damages done where they droped the bombs was the responsability of the USA. they droped the first atomic bomb as a warning to a place they knew had a smaller poplulation and experianced how damaging it was so they should have at the very least backed out there because I'm sorry But I agree 3 to 4 days is not enough time to take hold of that they needed time to figure out what was going on with the damage and there survivors they were so quick to react after the second atomic bomb of course because they didnt want to take the chance of USA doping yet another one on them so of course they would respond promptly without worrying about the damage that time even thou they needed to just so more damage wasnt done.

this is just my opinion on it of course thou sorry for the spelling and grammer thats not exactly my strong point.
