practicing long tones always works as well, especially on the higher notes. It gets easier the more you practice long tones

Scotty-2-Hottie2011 WHAT SHOULD I DO TO IMPROVE MY RANGE AND TOUNGING SKILLS?????I JUST WENT TO PLAT A SOLO AND GOT A 2 BECAUSE OF HIGH NOTES!!!!!! PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!! I'd recommend your long tones, like the person above suggested. You really just have to practice playing the high notes...it might take a while...but it'll be worth it.

If you go up like in a scale to the high note, that could help...

grrrr... your sig still scares me radman... anyway.. practice practice practice. and when you do get the high notes, dont just stick with them cause it will completely mess with your lower range. and if you can, get a trumpet with a bigger bore. instant high notes.

If you just use the mouthpeice to try and play notes that helps getting the mouthwork better because there are no buttons to help. Doing sirens (Slurring from the lowest to highest note you can do on a mouthpice), and long notes help. Also starting at a place your good at then working your way up the scale to the troublesome high notes works better than just playing them straight out.

What you need to do, is lip slur your scales, up and down

great range technique: start on g in the staff:
GCGECEG(<=above staff)ECEGCGC(<=below staff) this entire exercise is played using lip slurs, with all valves open the same pattern can be followed using these valve combinations:
all open(as noted above) 2 1 1&2 2&3 1&3 1,2&3
ive only been playing trumpet for a year and have greatly expanded my range as a result of these types of techniques
also, ask your bd for exercises to help you with range and tounging
good tounging technique is to imagine that you are shooting spitballs
i hope this helps, good luck!!
