The Winnipeg Free Press actually had a good article about black animals not too long ago: http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/life/story/4084003p-4683202c.html

Great articles. I really don't get it, though. I tend to prefer darker animals, but I'm not terribly picky, but I always find black to be sleek and gorgeous.
I'll find the exact link later, but Best Friends, the no-kill rescue group that was granted 22 of Michael Vick's fighting dogs, has noticed that the black and dark-coated dogs are more shy and fearful. They are still studying them (under court order, the dogs are the subject of intense behavioral studying) to learn more.
My theory is that with these dogs at least, the people involved in the fighting ring *expected* the black dogs to be tougher and meaner and so the dogs may have been subjected to more mistreatment. If you read the site at www.bestfriends.org, you'll see what I mean (and you'll wish MV got 23 life sentences rather than 23 months
