Quote: people tend to think that more money or material objects will make them happy. for some reason, most people arent happy in the present moment. no matter what they already have, happiness is something that can only be obtained in the future by obtaining things they dont have yet. but the person who cant be satisfied with what they already DO have in the present moment will never be happy, because they'll *always* be looking for something more and they dont realize that no external object will fill the internal void. that kind of happiness is superficial and fades quickly. but people think otherwise, and this is what fuels greed. true happiness can only come from within But some people can only realize what inner happiness is by first experiencing that material happiness first... Letting them know what true happiness is...

Sure, the stuff obtained with money do not make lucky, but only having people around you, doesn't make lucky too. Matter makes lucky, no question, but material joy is overrated in our times, "get this!", "get that!", "get those!".

But the same could be said about getting married... The only reason I say this is because I know you are because you said you were... I the case of marrage you use a material object to show your 'love' for the other person... And your happiness is seeing this ring because you know that they are serious... If a person said "Will you marry me" without getting down on one knee and showing you a ring you would nottake the person as seriously as you if he/she did... So material objects can be used as an object to symbolise true happiness or just for the fact of having them....

I dont have a wedding ring and neither does my husband. we recently decided to sell them (hadnt been wearing them anyway) you see, I did almost lose him starting about a year ago. we were separated for a good 9 or 10 months. since getting back together with him I feel our relationship has transcended that of your average married couple. tho we may get a new set of rings sometime in the future, they're not necessary. they're not integral to my happiness. they were a symbol of our love, yes, but it's just not a necessary thing.

Ha ha... That was kinda funny... We kinda went off topic though in a way... From money to material value to materail symbolising... Oh well this turned out to be a pritty good discussion... But my attention span has taken me off this topic... Well it was nice talking to you all...

funky_fudge_monkey kyoshiro2 I love money... I want mmore than my fair share... Yes I admit I'm greedy but isn't everyone in there own little way... There has to be something you what alot of... Be it food... Jewelry... Time with some one... Money is the only thing to keep you alive these days and it's gettng harder and harder to keep your money... The real people who 'steal' are the government... The more money you have the more they take off you... But it's your own hard earnt cash... I just doesn't seem fair... So all the greed cannot be one person with the money it's the people who take it off you... so, would life be easier if money wasn't involved, and direct trade was used instead?? for example, trading a chair for something worth just as much to you as the chair is to the person trading with you?? that way, the government wouldn't be able to take your well earned money..... xX Direct trade would give people a reason to learn a trade again, rather than getting stuck doing boring jobs they hate only to scratch together enough to pay rent or buy food. People would also know a lot more about what their selling as well, having produced it. Stuff would also be of a better quality but we'd have to make do with less, which would help reduce waste and hopefully make the general population less needy/greedy. And young people could inherit trades! Rather than worry about not having a future or about having to settle for a job they'll find unfulfilling. Ahhh, beautiful dream.

Here's another question: How does everybody feel about money and Gaia?
I know that selling items for money helps keep Gaia afloat and "free," but what's with people being called noobs because they can't spend money on items (you see this mostly in the Arena)? It's created a kind of digital greed/capitalism. Perhaps, even, a class system? Just something to ponder ...

It's created a kind of digital greed/capitalism. Perhaps, even, a class system? Just something to ponder ... I've always understood 'noob' to mean 'newbie'.. a new person to the site. one who doesnt have much and doesnt know the ropes. honestly, if I look at it a certain way I have an issue with spending real hard-earned money on items that arent real. spend $2.50 on a "collectible" that could potentially sell in the marketplace for $15K gold. but that's not REAL gold... it cant be used to help pay my rent. on the other hand.. if I look at it another way, this is a really cool game. and I'm sure it takes a lot to keep it going, and keeping it going translates into money. it's cool that they want to keep this a free game to play, but the money for the upkeep has to come from somewhere. buying rare or collectible items and opening the cash shop, even creating those cash cards is a very commendable and innovative way to go about it. which is why I've broken down a couple of times and bought a monthly collectible or two when possible. I would rather have it this way than have to pay a monthly fee. what pisses me off in the marketplace is when I see items that could be gotten for free in the Towns being sold for some crazy amount of money and the knowledge that there's some idiot out there who will buy it. all that does is keep the stupidity going.
