Well I'm learning it because I'll need it in a near futureafter all I'm saving up to go, live and work there. I always felt like I didn't belong in the country I was born. and something has been pulling me towards Japan since I was 4. The same with my indie group members. So we're going there in less than 2 years.
This time our dream is for real whee

I first encountered japanese through anime. I hate it when they screw up voices in the dubbing. Aya Fujimiya is my lover, if you touch him I will run a katana through your chest. But then I discovered Jrock and J-pop, specifically Gackt and Dir en Grey (some of the sexiest men on earth); I love their music, and its even better when you understand the words, ne?
I had a friend from Japan, Ketsuna, who taught me a little in exchange for teaching him english. So I could bad mouth your socks off... but I won't. 3nodding
I also love games, and someday I will get Final Fantasy in Japanese. That would be so awexome!
I hope to go to Japan someday and work there. Hey another hopeful seiyuu ! *glomp* I'm not alone!
I would like to learn a little colloquial Japanese too. They tend to look at you funny if you're extremely polite all the time. Ketsuna (watashi no tomodachi desu ) always told me, "Kami-sama, talk normally!"

At first I started learning Japanese for anime and manga, but my fan...ish..ness... of it was short-lived. I just learn it now because it sounds really kick a**.
And the Chinese are taking over the world in numbers (greatest spoke language) and my school doesn't offer Chinese, but once you learn Japanese, Chinese is really easy to pick up on.

I'm am learning Japanese as part of my life plan. Intense, I know, eh? Yah, after I finish university, I'm planning to go overseas to teach English and French in Japan. I have already been to Japan and completely fell in love with the country and it's culture. I have about 10 Japanese pen pals whom I exchange e-mails with and they are also teaching me Japanese.

I am learning Japanese for several reasons, the main one being I want to live in Kyoto someday and attend an art college there. My ultimate dream is to write and produce my own anime. Learning the lingo will be the easy part lol
Other than that I just love the culture...and especially the food!
