*Kero smiles*
Very well then.
Three brothers share a family sport A non-stop marathon The oldest one is fat and short And trudges slowly on The second brother's tall and slim And keeps a steady pace The youngest runs just like the wind Speeding through the race "He's young in years, we let him run" The other brothers say "For though he's surely number one He's second in a way"

She thinks and thinks but no answer comes to her. "I.... I don't know..." she admits after a bit. What is it?"

**sorry Kero... no clocks in these caves... LOL... nice try**
Bez rolls his eyes. "Maybe this will help, Kitten. Cinderella had to listen for something which had these..."
"Chimes?" she ventures hesitantly.

"What's that?" she exclaims examining it carefully.
"It's a minature clock, like the one in Cinderella." says Ai with a grin. "The one in Cinderella was huge and I doubt it had a second hand. Kero show them how it keeps time. We've had no need of such devices here, living by the sun as we do."

Mara is a quick study. Soon she is asking involved questions avbout gears and springs and all manner of things, while Ari merely marvels at the way each hand moves and it's own distinct speed.

*Kero smiles, stopping the lesson and pulling a book from his Void*
Here we are...On the movement of time, and the measurement thereof through natural, magical, and mechanical devices, my distinctive study on Time, the magic associated with it, both in resisting its effects and controlling its flow, as well as every instrument I could find used to measure time. Took me nearly 10,000 years to write this out properly.

The book is enormous, easily three times the size of any master dictionary in the Library of Congress. As Mara looks at it, her eyes begin to water. "I'll never be able to read all that..." she moans. (much less pick it up...)
Ai is struggling hard not to laugh. "I think Emnast has a condensed version up at his cave. Walk up there tomorrow and see. But you know... if there is a section of sundials, I'd love to have one made for my garden. Why don't you check it out, Kitten, and maybe you can make one with your Daddy."
"What's a sundial?" asks Ari as Mara and Bez carry the book to a safe side table, so she can explore it without it getting damaged.

Page 1001 begins the telling of Devices used to measure time. There is a table of contents with more precise things there.

"No doubt there is..." laughs Ai watching the two pour over the book. "You always were a stickler for details. A sundial, Ari, is a way to tell time by using the sun and the shadows it creates. It's really fairly accurate if made properly and was one of the earliest means to tell time. They are also very beautiful, if made properly. I can't remember how to mark the hours properly though."

*Kero chuckles, clapping his hands together sharply. The book floats off the table and comes to rest in front of him, pages whirling past until it settles on the section on sundials, and the creation thereof for home usage*
Here we are...this section will show you.

With the twins reading along with him over his shoulders, they learn about sundials and how to go about creating one.
"So it's really just a stick that casts a shadow." says Mara thoughtfully.
"Some stick... did you see this picture?" mutters Ari pointing to one of the example illustrations.

*Kero smiles*
Yes, in essence, is it simply a stick that casts a shadow, but the angle of both shadow and stick is highly important.
