Passura shivers against him. "Such sad thoughts... can... can we change the subject?"

*Kero nods*
Yes...how goes your copy work...and how are you doing on preparing for the rains?

"I... I need to catch more fish... but with Keva hurt I wasn't too sure I should leave. My...my copy work is done, would you like to see it?"

The boy nods with a small grin and goes to fetch his coy work, handing it to Kero carefully. "I tried a new formula fer my ink... I think i's ok... but it's not very waterproof, I'm afraid..."

*Kero looks it over, and smiles...then flicks his mind out to Pasa, once Amestru leaves*
So...did you get your fifty lines done as well?

The boy nods and pulls out a couple of more sheets upon which he has written, "I will learn to tell the difference between pranks I should pull and Pranks I should not.", fifty times.
"Yes, mes'sirrah... that part was simple..."

Excellent...now, how about we both go for a walk...I did promise you one everyday, did I not?

The boy nods eagerly. "And I get to ask questions, right?"
Amestru gives them both an odd look. "What does walking have to do with asking questions?" he asks taking over the vigil by Keva's side.

*Kero looks at him*
Teaching him science...everyday, we take a walk, and he asks me ten questions on the things he sees...that's all.
*Leads the boy outside, guiding him into the forest*

They walk in silence for a bit then Passura notices a vine that appears to have no roots of it's own growing out of tree. "Mes'sirrah... what is that?" he asks in confusion. "Is it really growingon the tree... where is it's main stalk... it's base?"

*Kero nods*
Some vines are Parasitic, Pasa...they take their nutrients from the tree itself, and their roots grow into the wood. There are others, not like this one, who breathe like we do, taking in air from around them, and drawing their nutrients from a single tiny root in the soil.

The boy's eyes grow round and he takes time to study the plant closely, even to the point of making notes about it in a small notebook he has brought along for the walk. "Does it hurt the tree?" he asks after a time studying the connection point where it digs down into the trunk of the tree.

*Kero nods*
Sadly, Yes. Under most circumstances, parasitic vines do hurt the tree. That's the definition of Parasite, Pasa...one party benefits, and the other is hurt, just like a flea on a dog.

The boy nods and reaches for the vine. "Then I should pull it free, so the tree heals."
