Iris's eye opened slowly. And then, she closed them again, damning herelf all the while for being distracted by the pretty view out the window and not closing the blooddy curtains first. It was too earrrlllyy to be awake, but the bright lights wouldn't let her sleep any longer. Such was the curse of being a light sleeper where sight was concerned. Though, you could probably screech a siren next to her ear and she wouldn't move. Stupid sensitive eyesight.

The brunette fingered her mussed curls tiredly and attempted futilely to roll off the bed. She nearly broke a wing in the process and decided she might have to just get up the old fashioned way.

Then she realised she'd nearly broken a wing in the process and screamed like a banshee, which acheived very little in the way of getting rid of the wing, but made her feel much more awake and better about many things. Until she realised that the sunrise hadn't even finished and that the other occupants of the home probably wouldn't appreciate that fact, snapping her jaw shut and biting her cheek to resist screaming again.

That was about the point that her cheek started bleeding and she remembered the distinct feeling of pointiness her eyeteeth had taken on the night before.

For the sake of her sanity, she decided to take a moment in which to stop biting herself, stop staring at the feathers littering her bed, and try to not screech again.

She also tried sorting out the frantic mess that was her mind, though that got far too annoying after a moment and she stopped, vouching instead for a zombie-like attempt and getting dressed again and a vague realisation that her already skimpy camisole was not made even skimpier by the fact that it was now reduced to having only one working strap. But at least it still stayed on...

Shrian's eyes snapped open in alarm, his crimson-tinted retinas flicking towards Iris' room as he heard a loud scream. Without thinking, the young man jumped up, coat falling from his winged shoulders as he dashed to the door to her room. "Iris?" he called worriedly, placing his hand on the door and swinging it open slowly.

Blinking at the sight, the similarly winged man looked slightly past Iris, eyes settling on the wings folded on her back. For a moment, all he could do was blink, before his eyes travelled to the young woman's eyes. "Is something wrong?" he asked, tone slightly concerned. Shrian tried to smile, though all that occured was a half-smirk reflecting just how tired he really was. Managing to doze off for a few minutes didn't help him too much.

Iris stared blankly at Shrian for a long moment before opening her mouth to reply. Nothing of interest came out. Instead she focused on his wings, and seemed to come to the conclusion that life was having a horrendous amount of fun screwing with her head.

"Well screw you right back, stupid fates." she muttered sourly before shaking her head. Finally, she focused more fully on Shrian, and now that her vocal chords were in working order (no more screeching or silence for her, no siree bob!) she could reply properly. "I'm fine. Just very...ugh." As if to prove her point, whatever point that may be, the great feathery things on her back spread open widely, revealing cream colored feathers that, as the traveled downwards, took on a distinctly red coloration.

She stared hard at her saviour-for-the-day for another moment and continued. "You, on the other hand, look like a snarky, shirtless insomniac who's going to collapse on himself. You don't happen to be one of those weird coffee addicts who can't function until they've drunk half a pot of that stuff, do you? Because you look the part. Maybe I should make you something. I think I saw eggs in that fridge of yours, and there's probably coffee somewhere around this place." She babbled, attempting to squelch her discomfort at her newly feathered once-arms-now-wings and pushing towards the doorway of her room.

This was not because she felt any need to readjust to life, of course. It was more because she'd spent her life in subservience, and she certainly did not feel she had the right to be an a** about her own wings when the person who had inadvertantly slipped into the role of employer had the same problem. So, instead, she fell back into her usual games of 'I do everything for you, and you pay me so I can keep my house,' though this time it was closer to 'I do everything for you and you pay for the house I'll now be living in.'

"New addition from this morning." Shrian responded, smirking wryly and shaking his head. "And no, I don't drink coffee that often. I just...Have trouble sleeping, you could say." Shrugging nonchalantly, the young man stepped backwards, allowing Iris to slip by him and out into the entranceway. Amazingly, Nitebyss lay sleeping soundly still, and not a sound was heard from Fiye's room. 'Huh...Heavy sleepers...'

"Oh, and I appologize for the lack of a shirt...I sort of ripped it off when these things tore out of my back, you see..." he said embarissedly. "I guess it was sort of one of those 'in-the-moment' type of things, but I'll fix that momentarily." As he spoke, Shrian walked to his dresser, withdrawing an identical black shirt to the one he'd worn before and dawning it swiftly, slitting holes in the shoulders before hand for his set of wings. Shoving the grey feathers through the two holes, he blinked, noticing the tinting on the wings had gotten darker since the morning. Ignoring it, he sidled over to the kitchen, leaning against the table with a sigh.

"I'm fine, thank you. Don't feel like you have to work for me, or anything." he said with a slight, fatigued smile. "Relax." His statement was rather simple, but he attempted to explain. "You've been tense ever since you got here. I know it's strange, things changing so fast, meeting people who want to help so suddenly, but you seem to have a need to do something. Like...A drive to keep working, 'else you'll...Well, I don't know what you'll do." Shrian chuckled slightly, running his fingers through his hair. "But how about yourself? Would you like something to eat, 'cause it's about time that I did some work around here. I am the host, right?" Smiling slightly, he leaned a head on his right hand, closing his eyes for a moment before opening them slowly.

"Dunno if I should be telling you this, but...You met Fiye, and you saw her usual behaviors. Well, just last night, we went on a walk, and she confessed her 'feelings for me', so to speak..." Trailing off awkwardly, the young man shook himself. "Soon after, though, she went through another transformation, growing claws around her knuckles. Stranger still, she was floating when the Trancendancy began. It was unreal..." Once again, he trailed off, wondering what exactly he was trying to explain. Asking for opinions? Wanting her input? Who knows, he was just talking.

Iris looked at Shrian steadily, taking in for the first time since she'd met him, his appearance. He was... not particularly interesting, in her eyes. But, he was exceptionally king and horrifiyingly nice and sweet and all the other cheesy and romantic adjectives she could possibly think up. Besides, if you were into the whole pale-skin dark-hair thing, he was probably a dream come true. The eyes were kind of unsettling in her opinion, but hey, maybe that was something that interested Fiye.

Turning back to the open refridgerator and scanning through it's contents for anything that could be made into a relatively interesting breakfast, she chose her next words carefully, but not to such a point that they didn't have the same rushed quality of everything else about her.

"I don't know what I'll do if I'm not busy or asleep. ...No, that's bull. I know what I'll do and I don't particularly want to deal with it. After the third horrifically failed suicide attempt," Let him think it's the kids I freaked out about Fiye over. He doesn't need to know... "you learn to keep your mind off of crap. Relaxing, my dear, is not the same for you as it is for me." She replied offhandedly, concentrating more on finding things to mix in with the dozen eggs she found. Cheese, onions, peppers, anything at all, as long as it made a decent shred of sense. At least cooking hadn't gone and flipped upside down like the rest of life.

"As for Fiye..." Her feathers ruffled in mild annoyance at the lack of greens to mix into the omelette in the making. It had been an awfully long time since she'd played guidance counselor. Not since that one woman's kid. What had his name been? Robert, maybe. That sounded about right... "Well, hey, whatever you wanna believe. I haven't been around the girl long enough to know. Maybe she was just loopy from the transformation about to take place. Or maybe she wasn't." She definately wasn't. If she was, he'd have noticed something. He seems sharp like that.

"But hey, confrontation is always fun. Nothing like a breakfast assault after a sleepless night." Her voice was carefully trained on the near edge of sarcasm. Open to interpretation, and lasced with suggestion. She clicked her tongue absently. "Ya know, I hear peaches are an aphrodisiac, and that girly of yours doesn't seem like much of an eggs person to me." She dropped the eggs, cheese and various vegetable stuffs on the counter and turned back to the fridge once more, picking up a fuzzy, orange-red peach and tossing it lightly towards Shrian's head. "Do what you will."

[[I've updated the front page of this role play, just so you know...

Shrian blinked. What could he say to that? All the young man could do was shake his head while an absent hand moved up to deftly catch the flying peach. After a moment of simply staring at the fruit, Shrian raised his head, smirking wryly at the young woman in front of him. "I've no idea what you think of me or Fiye at this point, but I have the distinct feeling that you find me or something about me rather dispicable. Shoot me for assuming, but I can only see it a few different ways."

Sidling over to lean against the wall opposite Iris, the youth thought carefully as to how to put his words. "A part of me wants to believe that you just plain don't like how I look or act. Another part of me believes you've had something in your past that prohibits you from trust or friendship. Or perhaps your lifestyle has never been that great, and this interruption and violent changing has thrown you into a whole new state of mind. And then there's always the part of me that thinks you're just a sour young woman who's angry at the world." Smiling weakly, still with the hint of tiredness, Shrian went on, attempting to make his words sound more like a perspective than anything else. "I can't think of any other reasoning behind it, unless you just hate how you're changing and don't know how to cope with this.

"Reguardless," Speaking slow as ever, the young man pushed off of the wall, eyes turning from Iris' as he moved back to the table, taking the keys up with his left hand. "how you view me is your own business. The fact that I've no idea how long you'll be staying steers me towards the theory that we should learn to get along in at least relative tranquility." Flipping his keys once, Shrian offered another weak smile. "But that's just my opinion, after all."

Iris shrugged, her wings fidgeting and feathers finally lying flat and in wait. What...the...hell... She hadn't thought her last words had been sour but, then again, she hadn't really had much expeirience in the matter.

"Look, mate, I can't very well say I like you, I don't think that'd make much sense. However, I can say this. My life has been one hectic mess after another, and when everything's finally settling down, this," her wings spread to their full span as if to mock her, "starts happening. Now, I haven't 'socialised' since I was twelve, and I haven't been a love couselour since fifteen. When I lived in my apartment, it was alone and in one room with a futon. When I lived in the houses of my employers, I was paid extra if I didn't talk or get in their way unless they asked. That's what I'm trying to do know, because that's how this works."

I dunno what he seems to think I'm here for, but as far as I can tell, this is going to come out as just another employment. Not being paid for, but he's letting me live here so, whatever. She nodded, and continued avoiding eye contact with the man. Crack the eggs, find a fork, don't be a pain. That was her general mantra. Omelette. I am making and omelette. That is all. Stop looking at meeee!

"I'd rather you consider me as a friend trying to help, but you do what you have to to stay sane, I suppose." Weak smile dissapearing into the same, tired face, Shrian flipped his keys back onto the table, sidling back over to his bed. He didn't want to argue anymore; the young man just thought that Iris needed a friend, or at least someone to trust. But perhaps he could be wrong. "I'm not keeping you here against your will, though, you're acting as if I'm an employer who's paying you for staying and doing the things I can easily do myself."

Falling heavily, wings outspread fully, Shrian hit his bed and bounced slightly. 'We have to get out of this city soon. Our "Mutations" are becoming more and more noticeable, and sooner or later, we'll be found out...' Closing a pair of tired eyes, the young man rolled onto his side, once again facing Iris as his eyes opened. He studied her, believing that he could grasp, even if just a little, her feeling of lonliness. 'I've been alone as well; these Transcendants I have around me all the time only use me for their safety, then leave me high and dry without another word...' Trailing off his own thoughts, Shrian sighed again, running his left hand through the trailing hair.

(( I finally got around to posting! Yay! ))

Kira wandered into town, munching on a blueberry muffin she'd tricked someone into giving her. Her backpack was slung over her right shoulder with virtually nothing inside. She was almost out of food. She probably only had enough for, maybe, another day. That just wouldn't do. She would just have to do something to solve that problem, she'd decided. As she passed a trash bin, Kira tossed the wrapper away. Only then did she take the time to take in her surroundings. There is certainly a lot of people here. Such a big town... I wonder which one it is. Maybe I should get a map? It might help. She thought, tossing her hair back. People were staring at her oddly. She did sort of stick out like a sore thumb, now that she thought about it.

Well, I need to find a place to stay. Problem is, I've got no cash on me. Kira began to walk away. I'll figure something out in the end. I always do. After several uninspirational minutes passed by, Kira resigned herself to the fact that she needed to ask for help. "Er, mister? Could you possibly give me directions? I'm a teeny bit lost, and I really need a place to stay." Kira smiled innocently at a store employee, who blinked back at her.

"Oh, yes. Of course. The nearest hotel is down that road." He pointed in the right direction. "If you don't have much money with you, then a good one to go to isn't too far from here. Just take a right after a few blocks." At this point, Kira zoned out, taking more interest in what the shop being the man was selling than what he was talking about. She did catch the name though, and the general direction, however. That was all she really needed.

"Thank you very much for your help!" She ran off, waving at him as she ran off. He still looked very confused, but yelled a 'your welcome' after her. Kira chuckled darkly to herself. Turn on the old innocent, angelic charm there and they don't even bother to notice a transcendant.

It was a half hour before she finally located the small hotel, and to her, it seemed like one of the longest half hours she'd ever had to endure. She'd gotten lost and it had taken a while for her to figure out where she was again. Maybe I should have paid attention to all he said. Oh well. She'd thought with a sigh during her search. Kira pushed the door open to see exactly what she'd expected; absolutely nothing of mention. It was a plain and very dull room. Not a place she'd have picked out herself, but it would do.

Now all she had to do was figure out how to get a free room... That could be difficult.

Iris scoffed lightly at the mention of being considered a friend, but held her tongue for a moment more to think of what to do. Subtle signals in body language were supposed to be her cue on what to say next, but it had been awhile since she'd tried that sort of thing and all she could glean from Shrian's tensness was...well, that he was tense. Not a particularly shocking discovery. She sighed inwardly and settled for replying to his words rather than his actions and promised herself that she'd work on that yhole reading people skill again later, and she was probably just being too twittery to focus, that's all.

"Hun, if there's one thing you don't want to be, it's friends with me. But, you're right, you aren't keeping me here against my will. Humankind on the whole and my general sense of well being might be, but you aren't. As for how I act, well, that's not your problem, is it." Hnn. I definately didn't get enough sleep last night. I must sound like a complete b***h... Meh. Whatever. "Besides, if you could do them yourself, I wouldn't be doing them, now would I? It's not like you're paying me to or something." Oooh. Low blow. Or maybe not. I guess I don't know enough about him to be feeling guilty on his behalf anyway. And again, what. Ever.

With her words hanging in the air, Iris finally cracked the eggs on the edge of a bowl filled with milk and various mix-ins for the omelette and began beating them furiously.

"Are you sure you're just not willing to accept a friend?" came Shrian's questioning, though still quiet voice. Rising slowly and slightly shakily, the young man flipped his keys back into a pale hand. "And I've lived here on my own for two years now. I know how to keep my apartment and make food." Giving Iris a curt nod, he moved to the door, flipping the long coat onto winged shoulders.

"I'm going to pick up a few things downtown. Do as you wish here. If Fiye wakes up, tell her I'll be back in a little while." Without another word, Shrian swung the door open, stepping out into the hall with an unseen head-shake. 'Don't know about her...She's been a loner for so long, she doesn't know what a friend is; at least, that's how I view it...'

Continuing downstairs and out the door, the pale man noted the time on his way out. 'Seven thirteen. I should be back by nine...' he thought distractedly. Heading out onto the worn sidewalk, Shrian slipped into the bustle of people making their way to work and other various places. He personally hated the city life, though there wasn't exactly anything he could do about it. All he could do was walk, be pushed, get yelled at, and get stepped on. All the while, the man kept checking his right pocket, making sure the wad of bills Fiye had given him stayed where it was.

Kira did a quick check around the lobby. No one was there except a bored looking man behind the counter and someone who was hurrying outside to hail a cab. The clerk was attempting to entertain himself with a sports magazine, but by the look on his face, she guessed he'd read it a hundred times already. When she came in, he looked up and raised an eyebrow in apparent suspicion. "Hi there! I need a place to stay. Do you have a free room?" She asked, hoping the rooms weren't as run down as the lobby was.

"You got money?" He asked as he set down the magazine and lifted his feet off the counter top.

"Well, no. But I can-" She started, but he cut her off.

"You won't get a room if you don't got any money." He stood to his feet. Kira started to protest, and the next thing she knew, she was being pushed out the door. "Don't come back 'til you can pay." The door slammed behind her.

"Fine then! The place was filthy anyway!" Kira stomped a foot childishly in her frustration, then stormed off. "What a jerk." She growled to herself, with earned her a few odd stares from others. She ignored them. "I hope not everyone in this city is so picky as he is. That'll make finding a nice, free place to stay really hard." Turning into a small park, Kira began a search to find a place to relax a while. She finally decided on a spot under a tree by the lake, and laid back to stare up into the branches. As first impressions go, I don't like this place much. I think I prefer smaller towns, rather than huge cities. Kira had tossed her backpack to the side of her after looking through to make sure she had nothing else to eat, which she didn't. Her notebook and mechanical pencil were on the grass beside her, but it was several moments before she sat up and grabbed for them. Kira wanted something to do, and sketching out the lake and the surrounding scenery seemed like the only interesting activity open for the moment; so that's what she did. She sketched out the lake several times and tossed away several pieces of paper before she finally drew something she liked, and continued with it.

It had been a long hour and a half when Shrian walked tiredly from the grocery store, muttering under his breath and caring several bags of various foods and drinks. "It's like a madhouse in there at this time..." he mumbled, shaking his thought-clogged head. It seemed like forever since he'd actually slept, and it felt as if it was finally getting to him. 'I don't think they'll mind if I make a short pit-stop...'

Making his way once again through the crowded streets, the young man slid into the comforting shade of the park's trees, sauntering along slowly with his eyes half closed. It took Shrian only a few minutes to reach his predetermined destination; of course, 'his' spot on the lake.

Aparently, though, 'his' spot was no longer 'his'. As he stood, blinking at the young woman who was currently sitting against 'his' tree, the youth raised an eyebrow. 'Well, that's never happened before...' he mused thoughtfully to himself, walking slowly up to the new girl. Shrian didn't exactly want to be rude, but it was a strange occurance that one would be sitting against the tree he'd come to call his own, especially when he'd marked it up with his wakizashi so many times.

Aproaching the female quietly, Shrian's lips quirked up slightly as he viewed her drawing. It was excellent; and he assumed that she was a perfectionist of sorts, seeing as how she had many crumpled up pieces of paper around her. Deciding to speak, the young Transcendant adressed her indirectly. "It's not every day that I find someone sitting against my tree..." His voice was, as always, calm and smooth, yet it held a tone of curiosity in it that wasn't often there. He hitched the coat a bit higher on his back, making sure that not even a feather was peeking out from underneath the fabric of the jacket.

Kira had taken a few seconds of a break to look over her sketch. She figured it was one of her better works. When someone snuck up behind her, she jumped in suprise and spun around as best as one could while sitting. Her first thought was that it was a police officer of some sort. Maybe it was against the law to be under this tree? But, no. It was just some teenager. What a relief. "Your... tree?" She questioned, glancing up at the brances. "Well, I didn't know it belonged to someone." Kira said as she set her notebook upside down on the grass beside her as she began to gather up the crumpled pieces of paper. She never did like it when someone else saw her drawings. After she left home, she had taken up sketching landscapes and never had someone to show them to. It had become a bit of a habit that she hid the notebook when someone came around.

Stuffing the papers into her bag to be thrown away later, Kira threw the backpack over her shoulder and dragged herself to her feet. Another thing she didn't like was sitting down while the person she was speaking to was upright. "I was just borrowing it, but if it bothers you, I'll go find another tree to lurk under." Kira was mildly irritated that she probably could not finish her sketch from the same spot. She would have to complete it from memory. As she wondered silently to herself how she'd manage it, she unconsciencely crossed her arms to hide her hands.

"No no, you misunderstand." Shrian responded, holding up a hand with a small smile. "It's just my typical spot to relax; that's all. I don't mind at all that you're using it; that just means to me that it's a nice spot." he mused, moving over to a tree a few feet away from the other. Placing a hand on each shoulder, holding down his coat, the young man slid down the tree trunk, sighing as he sat down tiredly. "Please, feel free to continue." He was refering to her drawing, since she seemed a bit upset that she had to stop.

Crimson-tinted eyes turned out onto the lake, closing for a moment to reminisce over the previous day once more. When the young man opened them, though, the turned up the the now upright young woman, blinking slightly as they wook her in. What Shrian noticed first was her crossed arms, how she looked slightly posessive and secretive. Next were her eyes, and his unsurity of the iris' exact color. His near burgundy eyes swept over her facial features, noting her aparent beauty and pale skin.

Willing himself to speak in the slightly awkward silence, the male spoke quietly as he adressed the female. "You don't exactly seem acustomed to city-life, judging by your bag of odd trinkets and things." he mused aloud, turning his eyes back towards the lake. "Are you new around here, or do you just like carrying such things around with you?" Smiling idly to himself, Shrian let his eyes travel back up to the young woman, who appeared to be in her late teens.
