Xarxos
*pokes Cougar Draven below him* The Army uses mathematicians ^_^ See code-breaking and game theory.

Oh, distinct point. That is actually one of the reasons I'm immersing myself in code theory.

Also, I must say, this is the only place on Gaia where I can be made to feel stupid. Kudos on that.

Hello everyone.

Currently, I am finishing up my undergraduate work, at California State University Northridge, in applied mathematics (statistics option) and computer science. After this upcoming semester, I will be attending graduate school (Ph.D. program) at either UC Riverside (they have already sent me an e-mail informing me of my acceptance + 2 fellowships), UC Santa Barbara (so far, only an e-mail stating that I might be offered a fellowship), or UC Irvine (no word back yet) in Statistics.

I work at the California Institute of Technology as a research assistant for the Biological Network Modeling Center at Beckman Institute and for Control & Dynamical Systems. I have been working at Caltech for over a year now, and I'm happy to say that through my work there I have two poster publications, both of which were presented at the International Conference on Systems Biology in Yokohama, Japan.

So, academically, that's me in a nutshell. I'm glad to be a member of this guild and look forward to participating in the forums!

I'm Ben and I'm a sixteen year old high school student. I really enjoy physics but in many ways more of a math geek. I'm taking Calc and am really enjoying that, and although I have never really had a physics class, am fascinated by it nonetheless. I hope to contribute by answering or helping to answer what questions I can (which wont be many, I'm sure) and learn a lot by asking questions and participating in discussions.

You might want to include your background in physics, are you a high school student, undegrad, grad, professional? What is your area of expertise/interest?

My name is a secret, but on the internet i am more widely known as Lain Iwakura (Serial Experiemnts Lain)
background in physics?
Well, nothing much, i memorize stuff, i know the speed of light off the top of my head [299,792,458 meters a second]

I got interested in physics from a theory i developed at the age of 6

The Multi-Dimensional Theory
______________________________________

When i feel like it i will type out the theory, however it has some flaws in it that i figured out threw life, i just don't feel like cutting them out because i am too lazy

________________________________________

Anyways, my iq as far as i know is somewhere between 130 to 145
I know that from multiple tests, and my father exclaimed one time:
'DAD GEUSS WUT? my iq is 120!!!'
'You kiddin? way higher than that!!'
'wut is it?'

But i know my iq isn't 146 cuz my father said 'the highest score that was obtained at your school is 146, yours didn't beat it, but now i know you are a genius!!!
___________________________________________

So when i was trying to make a comic for my latest theory The Multi Dimensional Theory
I needed to find a way to rupture our dimension. Even if it didn't make sense, just a way that sounds halfway convincing so i can get the base of the comic done :]

____________
I have a possible ADHD/ADD, I have finished studying Onierology (I have drained all sources about it, thus i am a master bwa hahahha :])
And Now physics is my newest thing

_____________________________
i hope to be a software engineer when i grow up, and i will stop boring you with my life

_______________________________________-
and im emo, with real problems in life so don't yell at me for that, after all i have real problems, not sissy 'waa no cereal' stuff

k thnx for ur time

Hmm, I suppose I should make myself known here. *nod*

Greetings, guild! Most people just call me by my name, Pat, and I am, obviously, interested in the world of mathematics and physics. Primarily, my interests lie in math, but I also have an appreciation of the application of it to physics, especially considering how physics has driven the development of humanity's knowledge of math. cool

Currently I'm studying to get a degree in computer programming, probably going for a math degree as well (hell, I consider my current enrollment in differential equations "for fun" at the moment--might as well get something more from it if I can). My current studies for two-year degree(s) are just a little something to assist in my getting out on my own into the world; I'm thinking further down the line that I'll either go for a BS or something more in one or both, or perhaps find my way over to computer engineering. Whatever I do, I just know I want to work with numbers and functions. wink

I've been interested in computers since I was very young, toying with BASIC around 8 years old. Math has really appealed to me since I started high school algebra. I suppose I just have an appreciation for the logical and ordered, so for me, both computers and mathematics intrigue me. I'll try to be a bit more active on Gaia (or at least in guilds!), so hopefully I will be able to contribute to the discussions here.

Sir Isaac Newton

Hello!

I'm actually a molecular psychobiology major (and pre-pharmacy), but I find Sir Isaac Newton to be an intriguing and questionable character, thus the account name. And I just could not have Sir Isaac Newton not join this guild.

hiya, this is for introductions, if you're new to the guild please provide us with a little bit of information about yourself.
My name's Daniel, I'm an undergraduate at Middle Tennessee State University. When first starting college in Fall 2005, my major was Music, Concentration: Classical Guitar Performance. Summer 2006 I officially changed it to Physics, Concentration: Medical Physics. Spring 2007 is my second semester as a Physics major, and I love it.

I took General Physics in 12th grade and got an A in it. I wanted to take a higher Physics course -- having Algebra 3 / Trigonometry in 11th grade -- but my counselor and parents persuaded me to take it instead, "to boost my GPA". (3.02 out of high school) I have made As in every math course I've ever taken.

Also, if you'd like to advertise for the Physics and Math Guild, here's our Ad, simply quote me and copy past it in your sig.
I like it; I s'pose I shall.

my name is... Ri_Ri lol
i am a freshman in highschool

I have an intrest in general particle and astro physics and how thaey are linked. since i haven't taken calculus or pre-cal yet, i'm still not apt at all the formulas...
I've always had an intrest in science since childhood. although now that i am older i realize science is very broad and the feilds of intrest i can go into are greater than i ever imagined.
yay physics

My name is billsabob, I am a freshman in high school.

I developed a love for the cosmos at a young age, and in first grade I wrote a small picture book about out solar system. After years of watching the science channel, I have changed my aspirations from Astronomer to Astrophysicist. I came here to find out, in depth, things that I dont know or want to know more about. This just seems like a better place than school because you can go one on one with people for a very extended period of time. I plan to take 2 trimesters (Yeah my school is gay, and they made it trimesters, but thats another story) of high school Physics because thats all that they will offer unless I spend my own money (Which I dont have). I am an intellegent person in some fields, like math and science, and not so in others. I need to work on applying myself to my work, but nothing in school right now appeals to me in a way that says "Finish me! I am INTERESTING!" Thats pretty much my life story. Yup

Hi all,
It's been a LOOONNNNGGGG self imposed exile, but my new and improved dissertation is in the hands of my committee as of last night so "hello, hello" to all my old friends, and "nice to meet you" to all the new people.

It's been so long I thought I should reintroduce myself. My name's Peter I'm a mathematician. I'm currently finishing up a 1 year position as a visiting professor at a Portland college. I'm teaching introductory statistics and data structures and algorithms this semester. In one or two months I *should* officially (and finally) have my PhD. The job I'm at now ends soon but I have a post-doc lined up, and if all goes well I'll be doing bioinformatics for a couple of years. Nice to see you all again!

grey wanderer! welcom back, I was beginning to wonder where you had gone, and also kind of skeptical about seeing you again.

hi im imbellis. im from the uk so when i say im in college i mean i'm just about to go to univerisity. which is what i think you americans call college lol. im intending to study physics or astophysics at uni in september. i've only developed a real interest in physics in the past year or so. but since then i've read everything i can get my hands on related to physics.

my main interest is astrophysics and cosmology atm but i'm interested in all areas of physics.

im slightly frightened by the complexity of some of the stuff you guys know but you seem quite cool lol.

glad to be here

Hi, I'm Eric, but you can call me Thereom mrgreen . I'm 25 years old and an undergrad at CSULA. I just changed my major from Electrical Engineering to Applied Math with a minor in Biology and hope to be done by Spring '08 or at the latest Summer '08. I love Math and all the Sciences. I've been tutoring Math now for about 6 years, helping community college students with everything from basic Arithmetic to Differential Equations/Linear Algebra.

Despite it not being very "applied" my current interests/obsession lies in Set Theory and Quantum Mechanics.
