Sure, you can join, although you won't be eligible for the prize at this point. :3 Hero, I'll add your req! Whee, we're hoping to get the past themes up but it hasn't been a priority yet. I'll try to do it today or tomorrow.
Edit: Oh, the past themes are up! biggrin They are under the requests.
Hey everyone! Sorry for summoning you, but I wanted everyone's opinions and I thought this would be the best way to do it. I'm quoted all the people who are up-to-date in the challenge -- 18 of us. :3
I'm looking for feedback on themes! This year the themes are much more organized than last year. This year's themes are more concrete (referring to specific things) while last years were more abstract and conceptual. The advantage of concrete themes is that they are easy to google and do a study, etc. The disadvantage is that they are much less flexible.
This is how the themes are currently divided:
[1]The first theme is always a "challenge" or something related to the drawing process. This theme is designed to make you think in a different way, do a little research, challenge yourself, or change your process somehow. [2]The second theme is always an animal. Simple! biggrin [3]The third theme is just brainstormed. These themes are a little less concrete than the first, second, and fourth. [4]The fourth theme is always a place/type of place. [5]The fifth theme is simply copy-pasted from someone else's 100 day challenge. rofl (I can find the link if anyone is curious.)
I'm discovering that while the more concrete themes are great for studies, I have a hard time working in commissions and personal work that I've been wanting to do. So these are slipping to the wayside, which is BAD in the case of commissions. I'm sure that other people would appreciate finding ways to work art homework into the themes.
The theme list is still flexible! So I'd love to here suggestions or specific requests. Are there particular types of themes that people would like?
Also, it might be fun if contestants could request particular themes to be on certain days. I'm not sure how we could do this fairly, though... Perhaps every day we select an up-to-date (or within a few days to up-to-date) contestant and let them select a sixth theme for everyone?
No promises that anything will change, but I'd love feedback. :3

I actually have an insane theme list I compiled years ago from practically every themed-lj I could find at the time, so I could provide that to tap into if you guys need. A lot of them were from writing communities, so it has stuff like "tranquil" "reason" etc. where it's vague enough to allow for a lot of flexibility and interpretation, but enough that it's something to start with.
In regards to commissions, I think allowing for commissions at least once every 2-3 days as a sixth option (or something) would help those who are doing them to stay current and also not fall behind in the 100 days.
Otherwise you guys have been doing a fantastic job so far, so I have no problems with how things are personally.

Gosh, I wouldn't know what to suggest...I've been doing pretty well with our themes, though I've noticed that I hardly get the time to do the challenge themes, lol! xD
I can't think of any suggestion but as for feedback, I'll tell you that the straight forward themes are a lifesaver for me.
Last year, when I had more time, I loved coming up with ideas and original designs for more abstract themes. This year, however, I have no time to sit and think, do inspiration research, try different approaches, ect. If I had to come up with original ideas for every theme it would be so much harder on me.
I'm sure everyone can agree that some days you just don't feel up to the challenge of being creative. I feel that a good balance between straight forward and abstract is the best way to go.

My only request is that we keep the animal themes (for this year's event) as I was hoping to do them all for my papercuts.
I can see how a lot of the themes are inflexible, so I'd be totally cool with you maybe adding a 6th more loose/abstract theme. You could maybe have a commission day every so often like you do with the "improve/finish previous art" themes.
Having participants choose a theme sounds like it could be fun. I'm not sure how it would work but it definitely sounds fun.
I can't really think of any suggestions. I actually really like the themes. There's at least one thing I like each day. I just wish more people could keep submitting things they want drawn cuz most the ones now don't interest me.

In my opinion the themes are pretty nice! The straightforward ones are a lifesaver, like Nikkic87. When I have to draw right before going to school or when I don't have much time, I find it easy to draw those themes. But, yes, I've noticed that the themes are more concrete-ish and not so loose. I agree with demon blurry eyes, if it is possible, maybe have a 6th theme that's really loose/abstract..? Or maybe make the third theme more loose and abstract-ish..?
I like the current balance between abstract and concrete a lot, as others have said. I find it easy for me to choose at least one at any point and turn it into whatever, whether it be a study or a sketch that the theme made me imagine... working commissions in would be a huge bonus for a lot of us I think, but yeah I cant think of much to suggest. smile
