But rain you lack the fundamental concept. Things like pornography on public websites and child porn should always be censored due to it's propagation of hurt children, along with things like snuff films and all kinds of horrible things.
And if an individual is doing all sorts of obscene things in your front lawn, or in the open, it shouldn't be allowed at all. Censorship can be good in many cases.
It's not inherently wrong, no more than stalking someone; police stalk and find bad guys all the time, people stalk people who are stalking them in reverse stalking methods.
By itself it is not inherently wrong, only when done incorrectly is it wrong.
Like just now for instance; you censored things without a good reason.
Had I had something that needed to be censored, perhaps it would have made sense.
The world isn't black and white and there are many layers and depths and shades to things, so labeling something bad or good before putting thought into it is generally a bad thing to do.
Some things are inherently wrong, becuase they already have adjectives tagged to them; genocide, rape, things which already, by definition, imply an injustice; but censoring something can be good in many situations, and while your principles are applaudable it's good to know the accurate method to respond rather than just jumping to conclusions.

But that's precisely the point here. These bills are vague enough that it would make it legal for even the mention of a copyrighted entity to be censored. So basically, taking out everything you said because of something with no harm intended. That's it in a nutshell. And that's what Rain did to you, although his motivations were different than theirs. The end result, however, is the same.

So why are you so against people trying to demonstrate this? You're throwing what's just short of a hissy fit because a lot of sites weren't available for 24 hours. That's one. Freaking. Day. It was a slap in the face to draw attention to this fact, just enough to get people who wouldn't normally notice or pay attention to this stuff to go "oh hey, what's this?"

Is that what you think?
SOPA censored you because you linked to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic™, sharing otherwise copyrighted material with us.
If I were to act EXACTLY like SOPA, then GaiaOnline™ itself would have been shut down due to your indiscretions. Possibly indefinitely.
(I just left the parts where you confessed that you were just trolling the lot of us, so those johnny-come-latelies would get the jist of why you were targetted ninja )

Except that it's less effective and isn't a sustainable solution. Advertisements would have been much better and places like google and gaia raised awareness without shutting down a service. I don't mind wiki taking it's vast user base and educational abilities and educating the public about problems and what a rational solution would be, but this was just silly. If they really want to solve problems they can do so easily, and they should given their ability, but this is simply not the way to go about it.

Mongooseh http://mashable.com/2012/01/20/sopa-is-dead-smith-pulls-bill/ Oh look. It worked. A lot of people pulled out before this black out, including Sony and Nintendo, several financial backing people and various representatives and whatnot pulled out. I already provided sources but Rain deleted them. The Bill was basically dead long before this black out ever happened and there's no proof that it's what caused it to happen (especially considering that it happened before the black-out). So your claims are erroneous.

Yes, and everyone pulling backing from the bill is probably why he pulled out. It's unlikely that it was this single event that caused him to quit and rather the previous months of supporters pulling out.

Okay. That's it I'm calling you out on this. I want your sources with full references and citations now.
Edit: Here's mine.
"The move comes after widespread protest on the Internet on Wednesday by Wikipedia, Reddit and others. The sites signaled their displeasure with the bill by going dark. That day, several Congressmen dropped their support for SOPA and its Senate counterpart, PIPA. The latter bill has also been taken off the table for now."

Posting a link about SOPA being shelved? All fine and dandy, and informative.
Beating this dead horse into the ground? Not okay. Cut it out. It's obvious nobody here is going to change their mind so leave the horse to rot and move on. Agree to disagree. If 9 pages didn't change his mind, another 9 won't either.
