its just me, but i could never classify hottopic as lolita, though they base some of their styles as lolita, they could never replace the real lolita

I personally think that the hot topic loli look is OK, not good, but not horrid either. Some of the clothes, like leg warmers (if they have them, haven't been there in a while) are OK, but that is about it.
I personally do not have an all Hot Topic wardrobe. When I go there, it is for the shirts and CDs. They have the good shirts I like for a decent price here in Ohio. The pants I go to Wal-Mart for, just because they are pretty awesome and have pants that fit me pretty well.

I really don't like Hottopic at all...i once bought a "lolita" top off their online page and when it got to my house i almost cried it was so horrid..even my mother (who knows NOTHING about lolita) said "wow that looks crappy"....the quality of their clothes are zero...i can understand if some girls cant afford to buy from the good online companies and they cant sew but some ppl are starting to look at Hottopic as a lolita clothes seller...they know nothing about the culture, the fashion, the history...so i dont see their clothes at lolita and never will...(Im not saying all of their merch is not good i like their t-shirts that are overpriced and their bodyjewlery but as far as loita goes..heck no) evil

Their "lolita" clothes are bad quality and horrible in general. They did carry Jrock magazines once, but they soon replaced them with "Gothic Beauty" magazines. rolleyes I only like them for their abundance of Disney Couture shirts.

it's lolita- inspired... that's all. I don't and wouldn't call it lolita thought... it's too revealing... not poufy enough... or has an improper poof... and the laces that they use look very lolita-cosplay-ish... like someone doesn't want to dress loli all the time... they just want to look lolita-esque for Halloween.

I started shopping at hot topic just a bit before it became emo kid paradise. I remember when I was a little kid I was afraid to go in there it was so dark and creepy. But now It's almost bright and cheerful. At least comparatively.
You have to sort of look through all the emo-kid crap to get anything worthwhile there I think. I've gotten some good lolita looking chokers and socks there but nothing else really lolita styled.
They are the only place close to me I know of other than online that sells Emily the Strange things though, I <3 them for that.

I ABHOR Hot Topic, but that's mainly cause I used to work there. They're overpriced and their goods are low-quality. Also, they are owned by The Gap, Inc. and that automatically kills it right their. Since when do a bunch of ordinary, prep jerk-faces know ANYTHING about underground fashion? People in suits shouldn't sell "alternative" clothing. That's why it's such a hipster store... I freaking hate that place. Thankfully, their website isn't too bad and on the odd occassion I actually DO find something in there I like, one of my friends works there, so I still get the 40% employee discount when I need something (like these ADORABLE cupcake-themed slip-ons I had her get me the other day! >_< I will be taking and posting photos when I get them) but that doesn't happen too often...

hmm...actually I don't like Hot Topic in a sense that they sell Lolita clothing because what they sell aren't even lolita. Sure there are chunky boots and corsets, but people who work there don't even know what lolita is (some may but most don't). Also, I really don't like about Hot Topic is that they overprice their items and the materials are of very low quality. I do enjoy going there sometimes for things like Hello Kitty items though. Lolita Fashion is more of an inderground type of fashion and I myself wouldn't want it to be exposed to mainstream stores like Hot Topic just because people think it's lolita.

Why don't any of those links work for me? confused Well, I bought an imitation lolita dress from Hot Topic and some shoes. The shoes weren't the ones I wanted, but they didn't have my size. I also bought little bows, which broke. And I bought a pair of black stockings with bows on them. They have some nice things, but I will have to mix and match it with other things.

I think it's fine.
I feel anything even remotely loli can be pushed into Loli with a little effort. Just takes ingenuity and matching skills.

KawaiiRini CJHeth I think it's fine. I feel anything even remotely loli can be pushed into Loli with a little effort. Just takes ingenuity and matching skills. and knowledge on the fashion. I would figure that would factor into ingenuity. You can't be ingenious about something if you don't first know what that something you are working with is, since ingenious implies you have done something intelligently. If it is done badly/without knowledge, it is in longer ingenious.
