I like both of them for different reasons:
Hikaru: immature, jealous, childish, more attention-seeking and selfish.
Kaoru: mature, more intellectual, selfless, and less attention-seeking.
I picked Hikaru because of how much he does care about Haruhi but also learning to get over his emotions.
