*Kero launches into an old story, telling of the melding of the powers of the four Elementals...personifications of the forces of natures...beings second only to the all ruler in power...how they imprisoned their fifth member, who had been corrupted by the darkness, which later coalesced into the Dark spirit Raigiduon...he tells of how Raigiduon slew the elemental of Water...and how the other three had taken her power and melded it with their own, impregnating Earth with twelve children, one for each birthstone, born of the three combatitive elements...Fire...Lightning...and Ice...how Raigiduon had stolen up on Earth at the culmination of her pregnancy, raping her and impregnating her with two more gems...Onyx and Jet...the Dark Children...*
So you see...a Gem child is someone destined to be the receptacle for that power...I am one of the dark children...a flaw in the plan the Dark One made...the only true dark child now is Tiamat, the Jet...the other Twelve have all awakened...but the prophecies tell of a thirteenth child...Sunstone...and until he awakens...we cannot hope to start the final battle...

No...they do not...none of us do...some of the gem children are feline...some are human...but to my knowledge...there is no gem child who allows a young fox to stay up past her bedtime...

shia impishly sticks out her tongue at you and gathers up the bowls. i'll wash them, uncle. you look busy. and i'll go to my room... doesn't mean i'll sleep though. so much has happened lately... not sure i can sleep... maybe i'll write in my journal... will that be alright with you?

*Kero laughs and gives her the go-ahead...but tells her to be alseep when the clock strikes midnight...that's when he and Rhea sort souls...until 3 AM...when she hears the fairy's tune, it's safe...

i'll try, uncle... but sometimes i have a hard time falling asleep... especially when i've got a lot to think about. if i shield me room will it help?

No...the cries of the souls could drive any creature nutso...I heard what Rhea did...but those were simple souls...a small amount, most destined for Heaven...we're sorting Child souls tonight...which means we have to work with some strange creatures...ever hear of the soul piper?
Note: Couldn't help it...but who better for Kero to work with?

No...he is the spirit who plays with the souls of children until they are ready to accept their deaths and move on...but he also is the one who chains the souls of children who turn evil, hurling them into the abyss...he is like me in that he does a thankless job...but he does it well...Tes may have taught me how to play a pipe...but he taught me the tunes to play on it...

*Suddenly, a discordant cry reaches her ears...the sound of a pipe being played even better than Kero...accompinied by the clanking of chains...laughter mingles with cries...and all the while, the pipe is playing, soon joined in, with a harmonizing tone, by Kero...who Shia realizes she has never heard sing before*
