One of the issues I have with the new items is that for some of them they make the items into a set, so if you want you're avatar to look kinda like the one they show you have to buy multiples of the same item. Now I know you can get them to go with other outfits without having all of them, but some of them just don't look as good without the whole set or at least a couple parts of the set. xp

That's what I hate about the new items. It's only so you'll spend more cash buying the items. I guess they think it makes them more "collectable." Sometimes there is one really nice position for an item, and I hate all the other bits, and I don't wanna have to pay 30k plus for one position. sweatdrop

Well, I'm just glad they don't call them "Donation Items" anymore.

Well now the term "Donation Item" doesn't apply to them. Four or five years ago the term actually somewhat applied, but now people are more focused on getting the item and the gold that helping gaia stay in buisness is more like a bonus on the side of that.

I completley agree. I remember when the Mythrill armour was released and to look good in it you had to buy like 5 of them. I think I had one but it didn't suit the look I was going for so I sold it.
In regards to the term "donation item", I agree too-people don't see the $2.50 as a donation, they see it as a cost or a fee.
Some Gaians are just far too avatar-centered, but I think the arena plays a role in maintaining that.

I prefered the term "donation item"...because it was the only way Gaia could get money to help fund the service..."collectable" persuades more people to spend their money but it doesn't make people think they are helping the site in any way..

I agree, the arena plays a pretty large part in it. People go into the arena hoping to make some gold, but they realize that you have to have the items to win. So people go out and spend money trying to make the perfect avatar and start to forget about the rest of gaia.
And like Shadow said, it was the "only" way Gaia could get money, but now they have real life items, giftcards, and Gaia cash. All of which doesn't say "Help us" it says "Get stuffs foo!"

I bought the OMG hat from the store, it sits in my room now. But at no point when I was buying it did I think, "I'm making a donation to Gaia". It was more just like "Ok so what is $____ in £s?". They don't remind users that the money is helping to fund the site, it just feels like you're buying something from a shop neutral

Yup but I guess it's working for them, because I'm fairly sure they have more money then they really need at this point.

Does anyone else here watch Heroes? Episode 10 of Volume 2 is just over and it was a HUGE cliffhanger. I just stood screaming "NOOOOOOOO!" at the TV. It's the first TV show in years that I've really gotten into xd

We have the first season on DVD, and I just can't get into it. I guess House and Boston Legal have spoiled me in terms of immediate drama and character interaction.

I mean, it just feels like there's nothing Heroes is doing that the first two Xmen movies didn't do better (I'm not mentioning the 3rd Xmen movie, it doesn't count.).

I don't like Heroes...too many characters, it's confusing, and the acting is pretty pants. sweatdrop I don't really watch TV series'..I'm more of a movie person..I dunno why..I just think movies are better because of the bigger budgets and better actors...I think movies tend to me more.."arty"?? I dunno..

I never really got into Heroes. It was entertaining to watch, but I didn't see enough of the episodes to really get into the series. I did get into "Who wants to be a Superhero?!" but that's mostly because it's so ridiculous and funny. xd

So I got a new-old computer at my Dad's house today. It was my grandpa's, so that's why it's "new-old" and basically why it's lacking internal goodies. I only have 256mb of ram, or some where around that number. xd

I can't get over how good Heroes is heart
I agree that X-Men has already done the superpower thing but Heroes tackles the issue more subtly and it has huge depth in terms of each individual character background.

@Chaos: I'm using my stepdad's laptop, hopefully I might be getting my own if I pass my A-levels xd
