Arron looked at Talbot. "...I... I-I want to see th-this through." he said, "I... I want to make sure you are-are safe as w-well. So please... l-let me g-go with you." Despite what his friend had said, the words still stung a little.

"You're.. making this very difficult. You must realize that I find it hard to assert myself..." Talbot spoke, looking away. He clenched his fist. "It seems I'm always prepared to accept everything that's asked of me, even if I'm against it." a sigh escaped his lips, and he hung his head. "But... for once... my stance on this subject will not change. I see no reason to involve you in a war you've no stake in."

The looked down. "...There... There was a lot of unrest in-in my home system... S-So... It's... not much d-different than wh-what I'm use to..." he admitted quietly.

"That.... that only causes me to believe that putting you through such a thing would be an even worse idea than I'd initially thought. Please Arron... this is not your war... and I am not your responsibility." he urged the mechanic, hoping he would understand. "You've suffered more than anyone should have to take. Allow me to shoulder this final burden alone."

Arron remained silent. He stood & went to clean the dishes, keeping his back to Talbot for a few minutes. "...I... I don't want to-to lose my fr-friend." he mumbled after a while.

Talbot frowned, not knowing how to reply. There was a very high chance he would die, either on the way to the kingdom, or while there. He could not assure Arron in that way. Still, he would not budge on the issue at hand. Not unless he was shown a good enough reason for Arron to come along.

As he washed the dishes, he started thinking. "You saw h-how I-I can hold my-my own in a-a fight Talbot..." he mumbled dryong his hands.

"If that were the issue, I would easily allow you to come along. You're far better in combat than I am, and much stronger in all other aspects." Talbot responded quietly. "Pain of the body is not the suffering I feel I'd need to shield you from, though it's of equal worry. I believe you'd be capable of that yourself. Pain of the heart is much harder to overcome." the knight knew the ravages of war and the suffering it wrought. He also knew that Arron had experienced such things before, and felt it would be cruel to force him through them again.

He unconsciously rubbed the back of his neck, feeling the thick scar as soon as Talbot had mentioned the pain of the heart. Looking down, Arron frowned. "...Y-You're right... it-it is... b-but... With th-the help of others, th-the blows are softened." he said looking to meet Talbot in the eyes.

"Why should you suffer through this for my sake? You've been through far too much already. If you were in my position, you'd suggest I stay behind as well, wouldn't you?" he asked Arron, frown deepening.

"...Y-You're right again..." he started, "...B-But the last p-person that t-told me to st-stay behind ended up being k-killed for my-my sake. I'm... I can't l-let th-that happen again." By then, Arron has stuffed his balled fists into his pockets & was starting to shake.

"I can't say that I would live, and I'm only as capable at defending myself as I've shown you. All I can say in reassurance is that I would do my best to remain alive so that I might fulfil my promise to you." Talbot replied. He wanted to comfort Arron, but felt that he was unfit to do so. "I will not command you to stay away. I have no authority over you, and I'm far too lowly to demand anything of anyone. But I don't support the idea of you coming with me. What you do from here is your choice to make..."

Arron visibly relaxed. "...Th-Then we leave when y-you want to..." he said quietly. It was needless to say that the knight was stuck with the mechanic til the very end of the adventure.

Talbot hung his head in defeat, but said nothing further against it. " I will be leaving tomorrow morning..." he stated He'd failed at protecting Arron yet again, and his disappointment in himself showed.

The young crossed the room & sat down beside his friend. "Th-This is my decision to-to g-go with y-you T-Talbot." he said, "Pl-Please don't th-think p-p-poorly of y-yourself..." On that note, Arron smiled kindly.
