tam grins mischievously... yer challenging a story teller to a story contest... yer a glutton fer punishment ye are....

tam winces... ouch.... hmmm.... well as for stupidity i think i've got ye beat... ye ever meet the all father? i did once... quite by accident... ma had to go home fer something or another... and we were all told explicitly not to follow... of course dad decided not to listen.... and i... i figured iffin he could do i could too... so i shrank meslef down to the size of an ant and jumped into the cuff of his pants and rode in secret... when we got there... he got royally chewed out and sent home, but i had already jumped out... and he ported before i could climb back in... so there i was... stranded in a place i had no reason on earth to be... i jumped onto ma's shoe and hung on fer dear life.... man, i had the hardest time keeping up with her... i kept falling off and once she even swatted at me... later there was this dinner see and i was starving... that's when i met the all father... i had climbed up onto the table... hoping to find a crumb or two without getting noticed and was so busy trying to stay out of sight i didn't see who's plate i was stealing from... on second i was reaching fer something to eat the next i was almost inhaled... then he stopped looked at me winked and flicked me off... sent me flying straight home he did... woke up the next day so dang sore with a nagging fear of being stepped on

tam nods... that's a long time... and it would oh how did ye put it once... ah yess... suck sea water... shudder... i've never been without me power... though there was a time it didn't help me in the least....

dad is a time walker... and a natural history buff.... has he ever had ye up in his lab? it's something else.... one of his hobbies is to go back in time and bring forth a breeding pair to see iffin he can establish breeding stock in our age... they usually don't breed once they're here... still he keeps trying... we all laugh at him, well i used to laugh at him, i now know why he does it and it's kind of pitiful when ye think about it... still that has nothing to do with this tale...

he took me with him once, back to a prehistoric age.... and there were this lizard things... not dinosaurs, but something that predated them... anyway he told me not to go in the water and i went anyway... met some big and nasty right off... so i ported to dry land... only to land in a nest of these tiny green chicken like things that took at distinct dislike to me sitting on their eggs... i tried to sing to them to let them know i meant no harm.... but those little buggers were tone deaf i guess... either that or they certainly didn't approve of me choice of song.... i was scratched and pecked until i looked like something... i beg yer pardon here... something the cat dragged in....

tam winks... he should have took a picture... i'd loved to have seen that...

he sighs and looks at the stars...

ye know about me kids right?... ever learn how they came to be?

tam laughs sheepishly... man i never believed him when he tried to tell me the facts of life... as a fox that is... i mean i knew me limits as a human... iffin that is indeed what i am... so i thought i had it all under control... he rolls his eyes and leans back... trust me... i was more than a bit cocky about it too... the best i can say about the whole thing is that he's never once rubbed it in me face... especially since i'm not at all interested in the act... i'm more of a asexual person than i appear to be... i can love and be loved... but heck... the physical need to procreate eludes me... ma says i've just not met someone i would want to give me all to... and i keep telling her that i've kind of been all over the place and iffin there was such a creature i would have surely found them by now... he looks at ye from the corner of his eyes and smiles sheepishly... now that is a secret bewtween friends, mind ye... don't go spreading it about, ok?

tam shakes his head... nope can't say ye have said anything about that....

she's persistent... i'll give her that.... laughs tam wisely... and brave.... smart too... she saw right through ye... took me a bit longer... but don't ye ever go trying to pull that i'm a big nasty all powerful trick on me again.... i'll laugh in yer face...

naw... i'm willing to wait... though i wish i could have a hand in me cubs upbringing... something tells me they aren't having an easy time of it... half wolf. half fox... and out of time at that... dad is keeping an eye on them but he won't let me see or contact them in anyway... he did give me an image of them... wanna see....

tam reaches into the air and plucks a locket from the moonlight... i store it here... that way i don't lose it...

and i know how powerful ye are... that's not what i meant and ye know it... he says testily opening it....

inside are two small images, two tiny cubs, one grey with black markings, the other more fox like with a touch of red in it's coat... the images shift a litle and look at ye, one winks and then goes back to sleep...

tam sighs.. that's dad's idea of compassion... he made these to be life like... but they're frozen in time... never get older... but they do seem to interact... i doubt that they connect to the real thing though... he was adamant about me not contactting them in anyway... he won't even tell me their names, so i can't do a searching for them... the grey's me boy... the little foxy one is me girl....
